    Manchester City 0-0 Liverpool

Nathaniel Clyne was struggling to deal with Leroy Sane early on, but now it's the Liverpool right back who's causing problems for the hosts.

He breaks down the right and is chopped down by Kevin de Bruyne. James Milner whips the free-kick to the back post, but Joel Matip heads wide.

Fernandinho is fantastic in the middle of the park.

Manchester City have got Sagna on the bench, a proper full-back, but Fernandinho is playing right-back and that is where Liverpool's chances have come from.

Good football from Manchester City and James Milner is called into action at the other end.

Yaya Toure steps between his markers and powers forward before feeding David Silva. The diminutive playmaker finds Raheem Sterling on the right but his cross is blocked by Milner.

Liverpool survive the corner and break forward to find Philippe Coutinho, but he curls an effort high and wide.

Fernandinho flies in with a robust challenge on James Milner, who just gets up and shrugs it off.

Milner gets the ball back and flicks it between his legs to beat the stand-in City right back, but his cross from the left is headed clear.

Well that first half hour has flown by.

Amazingly, we've not had any goals and there's still 22 players on the pitch.

City certainly had the better of the opening exchanges, but Liverpool have grown into this one.

And the sun has come out...

Billy Boy: Well done to Can for getting up so quickly after the Toure foul. Hazard, Costa et al would have made much more of a meal of it.

David Bushell: How is that not a red for Yaya. Inconsistencies from referees are killing the game

FEMI JOHN ATOYEBI:  Mane kicked Otamendi while trying to shoot. No foul against the Liverpool man. Good call by Michael Oliver

City look a little nervous on the ball at the back now with Sadio Mane lurking. Gael Clichy clips a ball forward and it runs straight through to Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool's build up is more measured, and they work it forward to find Georginio Wijnaldum in the City box. He goes down under pressure, but it's only a corner.

My instinct was that Mane kicked Otamendi but Otamendi was the wrong side.

It is so tough being a referee.

    Great chance for Liverpool.

Sadio Mane skips past Nicolas Otamendi after latching on  to a loose City pass in midfield.

Mane goes through on goal and looks to apply the finish, but goes down under pressure from a recovering Otamendi. Liverpool want a penalty, City say fair tackle.

Either way, Willy Caballero scoops up the loose ball and it's play on.

Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp exchange words on the touchline - but it all ends in a flamboyant high five.

Klopp has now been involved in a lengthy debate with fourth official Craig Pawson after running yards outside his technical area to complain about a decision. Over-heating a bit here.

That has got to be a red card.

Can has done Toure loads of favours.

That is a bad tackle from Toure.

Yaya Toure has just caught Emre Can in the chest.

The Liverpool man was on the ground after committing to a slide tackle himself, but Toure then mistimes his own lunge and studs the midfielder high.

    No doubt about that booking.

That was brilliant from Sane. Clyne doesn't know whether he is coming or going.

Then Silva drives just wide of the post.

Liverpool put a couple of neat passes together for the first time, but the move breaks down in the City box and within seconds David Silva is having a strike on goal at the other end.

It's the electric pace of Leroy Sane who springs free, before driving a ball into the area that bounces out towards Silva.

The Spaniard steadies himself, but slices over on the half volley.

We do have a booking, and it's Liverpool's Roberto Firmino.

Hard to tell whether he took the man or ball, but Michael Oliver reckons the former.

Pep Guardiola isn't impressed on the touchline.

Manchester City are piling on the pressure, but Liverpool are so far surviving this onslaught in the rain.

Fernandinho, at right back today, whips one across the face of goal but an outstretched Sergio Aguero can't connect.
