So that's a victory that extends Spurs' club record of successive league wins at home to 10, but Mauricio Pochettino's side looked less than convincing in the second half.
Credit to Southampton though, they made a good go of it after the break and nearly found a way back into the game.
Pressure back on Chelsea? Maybe not, but Spurs do close the gap on the leaders to 10 points.

Some good work from Steven Davis to find the substitute on the left, but Victor Wanyama just watches on as the Southampton winger's showboat attempt sees him almost trip over the ball and it trickles out for a Tottenham goal kick.

Christian Eriksen curls it in right-footed from the left, but overhits his delivery and Fraser Forster is happy to watch it scoot wide of the goal.

That must mean a reshuffle from Mauricio Pochettino. It looks like Dele Alli is going to play as the furthest man forward, Winks drops into midfield.
