With BBC radio 5 live now focusing on today's events in London, we are bringing this page to an end.

We will have reaction from Gareth Southgate, and probably Lukas Podolski, on our pages as soon as we get it.

Thanks as ever for the company tonight - we will be back on Friday night for Republic of Ireland v Wales.

  2. 'We found out so much tonight'published at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Scotland 1-1 Canada

Scotland coach Gordon Strachan on BBC Radio Scotland:  "It's one of the best decisions we've made as the coaching group in the SFA by playing this game.

"We found out so many things tonight. It's very hard for players who are not playing regularly to turn on the magic and feel really good about themselves.

"So, we learned that lesson, the lesson that you really can't mis-pass the ball so many times in the first 10 minutes and expect to then go and play, really, that well because you lose a bit of confidence.

"I thought we could've trusted each other better with the ball.

"Because of our first 15 minutes, giving the ball away, I thought we got a bit negative."

  3. 'You have to be patient'published at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

More from England captain Gary Cahill, speaking to ITV: "There are still a lot of positives."

Asked if the terrorist attack in London had been playing on the players' minds, Cahill added: "That's terrible. We were focused on the job we had to do."

More from England captain Gary Cahill:  "I thought we played well today, especially the first half, we controlled the game.

"We just focused on the job we had to do, work hard and produce a performance we had to.

"We have gone in on that formation on the back of one day on the training pitch. It's difficult to grasp it straight away."

  6. Postpublished at 21:57 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

Dele Alli and Adam Lallana were impressive tonight, close to transferring their club form to international level which has not been the case for many England players over the last, well, 30 years.

    Joshua Holmes: Unfortunate to lose

Simon Rowley: encouraging performance, just needed the goals. Keane looks an England player for long time. Alli and Lallana superb.

Dave Ellis: Enjoyable.England pressing and moving the ball around like..well.. the top clubs in England. Lessons have been learned

    Scotland 1-1 Canada

    Steven Thompson
Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

It's been one of the flattest second halves I've watched this season. That's a performance devoid of quality.

Gareth Brett:  Don't rate Rashford as a sole striker at all. Great as a support but needs goalscorer alongside IMO.

Rich: Marcus Rashford is the most overrated player in this country, hasn't done much all season and doesn't look like he is improving either

Dan the Man: We dominated possesion!!! We tried but couldn't win!!!

  12. Name them all!published at 21:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 1-0 England

Lukas Podolski had 115 different team-mates in his 130 caps for Germany. He is getting the bumps down by the dugouts.

Not many players get a send-off like this.

Kyle: Brilliant goal from a brilliant player. Fitting way for him to go out. That said England were excellent throughout.

David Penn: I'm now into my 5th decade as an England fan & only one fact counts: a poor, underwhelming Germany still managed to beat us 1-0

Daran Philipson: England have been terrible in the final third, too many wrong decisions. I don't think Kane wd make a difference either.

There's a slight flaw in that plan, Danny, if teams in the top six don't play too many English players.

From the starting XI only Joe Hart, Ryan Bertrand, Michael Keane, Jake Livermore and Jamie Vardy play for teams outside the top six anyway.

  17. 'England need top-six players'published at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 1-0 England

    Danny Mills
Ex-Leeds defender on BBC Radio 5 live

The whole squad should really be coming from those top-six clubs or those playing Champions League football if you want to compete with Germany.

    You'll find that with Germany.

It was not a bad performance from England, but Germany were the slightly better side in the end.

England had chances and weren't clinical. Germany brought on experience, England brought on youth - but what a stunning goal.

  18. Postpublished at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 1-0 England

Germany have now gone 648 minutes without conceding an international goal. They rode their luck at times tonight - Dele Alli and Adam Lallana should both really have scored. They both could have scored anyway.

  20. '2-0 would be unfair'published at 21:42 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 1-0 England

    Danny Mills
Ex-Leeds defender on BBC Radio 5 live

I think 2-0 would be a little unfair. Get through to 90 minutes and it's not been a disaster in any way, shape or form.
