  1. 'Lallana shot lacked conviction'published at 20:26 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 0-0 England

    Danny Mills
Ex-Leeds defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Adam Lallana pretty much ran from the half-way line, it looked like he almost ran out of steam, there wasn't a huge amount of conviction in that shot - it sort of drifted.

Unfortunately for England, it's come back off the post.

The phrase "low-key" could have been invented for this friendly until that run and shot against the post from Adam Lallana.

Not much physical contact in a game mostly played at strolling pace. England, however, are the more threatening side.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 30 mins

    Germany 0-0 England

England hit the post! This is the Adam Lallana Jurgen Klopp has had a hand in creating as he wins the ball back on the halfway line, and motors on. He runs and runs and runs, nobody can get near him, and with a man in the middle he instead shoots, low and left-footed, and against the inside of the post.

It bounces clear and England are really unlucky.

  5. 'We need a goal'published at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 0-0 England

    Danny Mills
Ex-Leeds defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Unfortunately, not an awful lot has happened. It's hard to get excited about this.

We need a goal form either side to give the crowd a lift, get the other side attacking.

It's all a bit 'nicey-nicey', no one is closing down with any intensity, just allowing each other to have the ball.

Andrew Cassie: I do like the set up but still can't quite believe I'm watching Jake Livermore in an England shirt!

Mike P: Have to move the ball quicker. It's like U8s when every player has to touch it before you're allowed to shoot

Stuart: For the first time in a while I'm actually enjoying watching England. Impressed.

Dele Alli runs in behind the German defence, Michael Keane plays the Toby Alderweireld role and clips the pass into him from deep, a lovely long pass actually. Alli puts over the cross but Antonio Rudiger is well placed to head clear from Jamie Vardy.

Eric Dier is strong in the tackle on Dortmund's Julian Weigl, who is hurt. And in retrospect, was in the wrong. He left his foot in high on Dier.

    Germany 0-0 England

Eric Dier scored the winner in Berlin last year and he gets the run at a corner again, meeting Adam Lallana's cross really well but only flicking it straight at Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

England still much the better side. Germany look like what they are - a mish-mash of players.

My only criticism of this England shape so far is that it pushes Dele Alli out to the left at times and I think that's a waste, but from that position he does create the next chance. Alli looks up to see Tottenham team-mate Kyle Walker piling forward on the right, he floats the ball across, Walker keeps it in and hooks over a cross but Jamie Vardy and Alli can't win it at the far post.

  10. 'Premier League suited to international game'published at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 0-0 England

    Danny Mills
Ex-Leeds defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Germany are maybe just starting to exert a little bit of control, keeping the ball.

The way most teams play in the Premier League is lending itself to international football, that should give players a much better footing when they come and play international football.

Most top teams are trying to get the ball down, play out from the back. Players are more comfortable on the ball.

So with this younger side, it will take a bit of work, but there is a greater chance of progression than we've seen in the past.

Germany are now seeing more and more of the ball after a sluggish start as they begin to win the midfield battle. Chris Smalling does well though to deal with Julian Brandt as the Leverkusen man pulls out to wide on the right.

Sarah Morgan: Think English fans should take German lessons and show disapproval of players acting like in ballet shoes, not football boots!

Kenny Richardson: Good start from England, but I'm not sure I like these short passes at the back

Darryl: Didn't Sane play in the 2 "tough" games v Monaco and Liverpool this week like Sterling and Stones? Our players really are pampered like no other

  13. 'Same old story'published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Scotland 0-1 Canada

    Brian McLauchlin

Same old story at the back for Scotland as the makeshift defence once again give away a cheap goal. Certainly not Lee Wallace's finest moment as he initially gave the ball away midway inside the Canada half then failed to clear the cross into the box that Fraser Aird eventually dispatched with ease.

First danger sign for England as Toni Kroos wins the ball back and pings a pass off to Lukas Podolski in a good position about 25 yards out, he winds up that celebrated left peg but Michael Keane races out to meet him and takes the shot full in the thigh. Fine defending.

  15. 'Fine line between cheating and going down'published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 0-0 England

    Danny Mills
Ex-Leeds defender on BBC Radio 5 live

There is a fine line between going down easily and cheating, it is very difficult to tell.

I don't have any issue with a player making the most of a situation, if there is any contact and you go over that's down to the referee to make a decision - if you felt contact, that's fine.

The problem I have is when players initiate the contact or go over when there is no contact at all.

I think there is a huge difference between making the most of a situation and going down without contact.

All a bit messy and scrappy at the back for Germany as Dele Alli leads the pressing charge, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has to scramble across to save a corner.

  17. 'The feel of a testimonial'published at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Germany 0-0 England

Germany and their supporters not impressed with Jamie Vardy's attempts to win a penalty - otherwise this has been a bright and lively start by England.

The home side are taking their time to get going, although they usually do sooner or later.

This currently has the feel of a Lukas Podolski testimonial game.

The pace of Jamie Vardy is keeping that Germany defence honest, and Kyle Walker almost slides him in down the sides but a sliding Antonio Rudiger just about reaches it.

I think Gareth Southgate will be delighted with the opening 10 minuets, England have been the better side for sure. New boys Jake Livermore and Michael Keane have looked solid and the shape looks decent enough.

The England fans are in good voice.
