A very difficult chance for Michael Keane, it came through a crowd of players, but what a start that would have been.

Chance! The corner runs through to Michael Keane, he leans back and slams the left-footed shot over the bar!

Good spell for England. 

Gary Cahill gets a barge in the back but he's OK, that's the first real sign of any competition between the two sides. Michael Keane gets a rather testing pass from Joe Hart but deals with it well.

England then work it well, Dele Alli into the run of Jamie Vardy, Marc-Andre ter Stegen comes out, Vardy toes it around him and goes down...

No penalty!

Mesut Ozil has won five out of six player of the year awards for Germany but divides opinion in England and especially at Arsenal.

When you think of the quality in this squad, that is some achievement.

Good work from Jake Livermore, snapping into the tackle and winning the ball back but Jamie Vardy's touch is errant and Germany win it back. It looks like there will be space in behind a high German line for Vardy.

England have to be patient. Eric Dier and Jake Livermore have to get on the ball.

There is no point keeping it at the back for 10, 15 passes and then pumping it long. That's easy for the defence.

Lukas Podolski is playing right up front for Germany tonight. The hosts have started at testimonial pace, showing no interest in pressing that England back three when in possession. 

Kyle Walker pushes high up the pitch as England start in confident mood.  Michael Keane is on the right of that back three, Chris Smalling in the middle and Gary Cahill on the left, where he plays for Chelsea.

Germany have a squad littered with quality and it is something England have to try to emulate over the next few years.

Jonjo: We all clamour for change in the England side, and when in a friendly it happens, we immediately start criticizing the choice  

Tom Swain: Don't get me wrong, it's great their giving Podolski a nice send off, but couldn't it have all been done half an hour ago?!  

David Simpson: It's days like this when it's embarrassing how negative all English fans become. We haven't even played yet!   

Better late than never - we are up and running in Dortmund. Adam Lallana does the honours from kick-off. 

We are under way in Edinburgh though - follow that game here. 

We're going to have a late kick-off, Lukas Podolski's speeches have pushed us back. Strike up the brass band, it's anthem time.

England have got to have the courage to get on the ball and play the right way. 

This isn't about throwing players on at the end and trying to win it, this is about the development of this team.

The lads on ITV are getting a bit twitchy as Lukas Podolski continues to address the crowd:

"I want to personally say thank you for 13 awesome years on & off the pitch. You fans have played a big part in that."

Every man, woman and child are on their feet applauding what a sensational career Lukas Podolski has had, the amount of trophies he has won.

Lukas Podolski is now taking to the microphone to address his adoring public. This has the feel of a testimonial about it - let's hope the game is more exciting than that.

Podolski is a bit glassy eyed. Your last ever international - he needs two goals to reach 50. 

I told you I'd bore you about this, and I'll make this my last mention, but you really should get to Dortmund's ground for a game if you can. One for the footballing wish list for sure.
