    Liverpool 1-2 Crystal Palace

Final change for Palace. Christian Benteke off, Fraizer Campbell on. Benteke has scored more goals as a visiting player to Anfield than he did as a Red.

  2. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Liverpool 1-2 Crystal Palace

Liverpool will stay third, but only two points above Manchester City and three ahead of United, who have two games in hand. They would be nine points above Arsenal, who have three games in hand. Into the final five.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 82 mins

    Liverpool 1-2 Crystal Palace

Yohan Cabaye off, Damien Delaney on. On further inspection of the table, Palace could into the top half if they win in midweek. They could finish as high as eighth. I'm pretty sure they were going down about three weeks ago.

Why do Liverpool struggle so badly against teams from the wrong end of the Premier League? As it stands, Palace are climbing all the way to 12th, seven points above the drop zone. Big Sam has done it again.

Michael Reid: Liverpool fans maybe gloating a bit to soon about their return to champions league? Chelsea, spurs, city & United?

Philip Stothers: It was very obvious that we had to cut Bentekes supply today. That is another thing Klopp has got wrong recently. Oh dear.

Steve Best: LFC returning to their depressing inability to beat lower table opposition. Simply not good enough.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 77 mins

    Liverpool 1-2 Crystal Palace

Palace sub. Patrick van Aanholt on, the curiously quiet Wilfried Zaha off. At 2-1 down, Liverpool are turning to the rookie Trent Alexander-Arnold to replace Dejan Lovren. At the same time, Roberto Firmino gets instructions from Jurgen Klopp written on what looks like the back of an envelope. In the middle of a match, can players really take that on board?

Enormous goal! Poorly defended by Liverpool. Benteke, six yards out, heads it easily into the net.

It's a sucker-punch, but Liverpool only have themselves to blame. After all that domination, the Reds have been punished by that man again. A corner from the right, allowed to travel miles to far, maybe via a little flick at the near post. Christian Benteke has the freedom of the six-yard box and stoops to head in from close range.

Liverpool are as nervy as you like. Sam Allardyce has his hands on his head.

It was knocked down by Benteke, Cabaye - 12 yards out, stretching - put it over the bar.

A decent chance for Palace, their first sight of goal in the second half. A free-kick bounces around in the Liverpool box, Yohan Cabaye gets away a snap shot on the turn. Over the bar, but a warning for Liverpool. Their momentum has been sapped.

Palace have alleviated the pressure, managing to spend some time in the Liverpool half. Have Liverpool missed their chance to lead whilst they dominated? We await the awakening of the Anfield crowd.

How can this be right? Sam Allardyce screams at referee Mike Jones. "Do your job", with an unprintable swear word in there too. Haven't the FA got a Respect campaign? What a joke.

Liverpool are knocking here. If Palace are forced any deeper they will be defending in the front row of The Kop. Roberto Firmino finds space on the right, but fails to test Wayne Hennessey.

Palace haven't shown much since the break. As the shadow extends almost to the far side of the Anfield turf, they are left chasing the ball as it is stroked around by those in red. Liverpool have taken up residence in the Palace half.

Though Liverpool are bang on top, it remains devoid of atmos inside Anfield. Nerves? A Sunday lunch large enough to make you feel sleepy? Lovely through ball by James Milner, Roberto Firmino just beaten to it by an onrushing Wayne Hennessey.

We might have to check to see how many Phil Coutinhos there are on the pitch. He's everywhere. This time a header that may have been heading for the bottom corner had it not hit Divock Origi.

I think Coutinho's asking Andre Marriner for a penalty. He got a heavy challenge but he stayed on his feet. He could have got a shot off earlier. Terrific skill from Coutinho.

Coutinho again! Dancing through the Palace box. Hassled by Martin Kelly. The shot is eventually wide, but should it be a penalty? Very probably. Kelly's touch undoubtedly affected the shot. If Coutinho goes down rather than staying on his feet, that's a spot-kick.
