City boss Pep Guardiola says United's Michael Carrick - who is captain tonight -  is "one of the best midfielders I've ever seen".

The former England player, 35, is at the same level as World Cup winners Xabi Alonso and Sergio Busquets - according to the man who has managed both Spaniards at club level.

"He's one of the best holding midfielders I've ever seen in my life, by far," Guardiola said.

  2. Breaking team newspublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 27 April 2017

Manchester United have made four changes, with Marcus Rashford replacing Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick taking the injured Paul Pogba's place.

City striker Sergio Aguero starts despite fitness concerns, but David Silva misses out. Gabriel Jesus is on the bench.

    Full team news to follow.

  3. 'Breaking Manchester'published at 18:55 British Summer Time 27 April 2017

BBC Three have done a sort of parody of the managers using what I presume is Breaking Bad.

I gave up watching the show after four or five episodes so I couldn't be sure...

We want to know which one of City or United is best placed to challenge for the title next season - and what they need to do to ensure they can compete.

Stephen Wilkinson: Man Utd might well be an Antoine Griezmann away from winning the title. They've been very difficult to beat without finishing enough chances all season. Defensively look very solid despite all the injury problems. The future is bright. I am a United fan so i have to be positive.

James in Warminster: City are in for a better chance than United next year - Pep will have got his team the way he wants it by then, fully understands the Prem and dare I say it, I feel he may walk it and prove his so called doubters wrong!

  5. 'Hair's breadth between failure and success'published at 18:48 British Summer Time 27 April 2017

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

United boss Jose Mourinho has already won the League Cup so should they win the Europa League, they would have two trophies and possibly a top-four finish, and we would all be saying how fantastic he has done, despite the fact they have never been in touch with the title race.

On the other hand, if they finish fifth rather than fourth and fail to win the Europa League then people are going to reflect on his first season at Old Trafford very differently.

In that scenario, winning the League Cup is not enough and he will be the one we are calling a failure, even if it is by a hair's breadth.

City and United have both underachieved this season with the jury still out on the managers.

But we want to know if either side will be competing for the title next season.

Who has the best chance? What do either side need to do to make themselves contenders?

Do City need massive work doing to their squad? Or are they good enough for the title as they are? Are United just an Antoine Griezmann away from glory?

  8. What tonight's game means for the tablepublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 27 April 2017

Manchester City still have strong hopes of finishing in third position - which would put them straight in the Champions League group stages and not the play-offs. A win tonight would take them above Liverpool, with a game in hand.

But lose tonight, and they are suddenly out of the top four entirely... with United taking their place.

Even if they finish fifth (or sixth, or seventh) United would still qualify for the Champions League if they win the Europa League. They face Celta Vigo in the semis. They could actually go third tonight if they win by three goals.
