Marouane Fellaini has been exceptional for Manchester United tonight. He has been using his chest to bring people into the game and gets into the box. He started that move and climbed above the Ajax defence.

  2. CLOSE!published at 64 mins

    Ajax 0-2 Manchester United

Action! Something happens as Paul Pogba clips a deft cross in from the right, Marouane Fellaini is able to win the header with ease and while he finds plenty of power he can only nod it straight at Andre Onana in the Ajax goal..

Fellaini will think he should have scored that. Ajax can't deal with the big man.

David Neres will cause a different kind of threat for Smalling and Blind who, so far, have had a relatively easy night.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 63 mins

    Ajax 0-2 Manchester United

Half an hour to go. That second goal has taken any wind that was in the sails of Ajax. They look a beaten side out there.

Amin Younes is booked for tugging the shirt of Antonio Valencia.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 61 mins

    Ajax 0-2 Manchester United

This is not great now, let's be honest. Neither side are capable of putting three passes together.

Kasper Dolberg, who has been a passenger up front for Ajax, comes off and David Neres is on.

I like the look of Matthijs de Ligt a lot, the 17-year-old looks like a class act in the making. He reads Juan Mata's intentions to barge him out of the way and clears the ball inside the penalty area.

Ajax need some stardust at the other end of the pitch now though. I can't see a comeback. Can you?

Joel Veltman is the first Ajax man into the book as he chops down Juan Mata, who glided inside with typical grace.

If Ajax have a Plan B it's needed out on the pitch now. Right now.

They are having loads of possession but zero end product. That's promising though - a ball over the top picks out Amin Younes but he turns the wrong way and the chance is gone.

Still only one shot on target from the Dutch side.

One of the biggest decisions facing Jose Mourinho before the match was whether to go with Chris Smalling or Phil Jones.

He decided to go with Smalling, who won every header in the first half and set up the goal for Mkhitaryan. He's in there because of his aerial threat.

You can just see moments from Marcus Rashford now - he does look like he could do some damage.

PING! Does Jose still live in a hotel? I doubt he even has a microwave Harry.

But yes, no celebration at all from the Manchester United manager during either goal. All business.

I hate how grumpy Mourinho is now, goes two up in a European final and he just sits there like he's waiting for his microwave dinner to finish cooking.

A tremendous racket inside the Friends Arena from both sets of fans. The Ajax support remains in good voice but they need something to cling on to. They haven't been able to lay a glove on Manchester United where it counts.

James Borthwick: What was that about taking Mkhitaryan off? (Hope I don't regret this later!)

Lee Jordan: Who was everyone taking off again?

The United fans, reserved for large periods of the first half are now celebrating wildly behind the goal where Henrikh Mkhitaryan has just scored. It's been a rather stodgy season at times but Manchester United are on course for Champions League football and two trophies. Success?

It's a good job the manager left Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the pitch - we were questioning at half-time whether he should come off. That's why he stayed on. He showed great instinct to hook the ball in.

It was a brilliant finish from Henrikh Mkhitaryan who, aside from this game, has been United's best player in this competition all season.

This could get ugly for Ajax, they look ragged as Marcus Rashford nearly runs in from the halfway line, Davinson Sanchez is in a pickle positionally but he recovers well to toe the ball away in the end.

  19. goal

GOAL - Ajax 0-2 Manchester Unitedpublished at 48 mins

    Henrikh Mkhitaryan

We expected him to be replaced at half time but Henrikh Mkhitaryan has scored what could be a massive goal!

Ajax again look weak at the back as Chris Smalling wins a header from the corner, nodded down and Mkhitaryan reads it, back to goal, and he flicks the ball acrobatically into the roof of the net.
