I like the look of Matthijs de Ligt a lot, the 17-year-old looks like a class act in the making. He reads Juan Mata's intentions to barge him out of the way and clears the ball inside the penalty area.

Ajax need some stardust at the other end of the pitch now though. I can't see a comeback. Can you?

One of the biggest decisions facing Jose Mourinho before the match was whether to go with Chris Smalling or Phil Jones.

He decided to go with Smalling, who won every header in the first half and set up the goal for Mkhitaryan. He's in there because of his aerial threat.

A tremendous racket inside the Friends Arena from both sets of fans. The Ajax support remains in good voice but they need something to cling on to. They haven't been able to lay a glove on Manchester United where it counts.

The United fans, reserved for large periods of the first half are now celebrating wildly behind the goal where Henrikh Mkhitaryan has just scored. It's been a rather stodgy season at times but Manchester United are on course for Champions League football and two trophies. Success?

It's a good job the manager left Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the pitch - we were questioning at half-time whether he should come off. That's why he stayed on. He showed great instinct to hook the ball in.

It was a brilliant finish from Henrikh Mkhitaryan who, aside from this game, has been United's best player in this competition all season.

This could get ugly for Ajax, they look ragged as Marcus Rashford nearly runs in from the halfway line, Davinson Sanchez is in a pickle positionally but he recovers well to toe the ball away in the end.
