Well the acoustics must be good if Phil can see them....

This is the style Ajax like to play. Every time they lose the ball, they fight really hard to win it back.

The design of this arena really helps the atmosphere - it's brilliant. The acoustics are the best I have ever seen.

Has Bertrand Traore got a future at Chelsea, or in Premier League somewhere? He has impressed in this opening half. Ajax have not really forced Sergio Romero into action though. Not serious action anyway.

If I was Ajax I'd be trying to get the ball out to the right-hand side for Bertrand Traore. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is on a yellow card, he has switched off now and again, so get Joel Veltman on the overlap.

    Ajax 0-1 Manchester United

Bertrand Traore almost gets in behind but Daley Blind puts out a foot at the perfect time to shut the door. The game is well poised, as United sit off and almost invite Ajax on to them.

Great play from Traore again! He beats Blind this time and gets into the area - cleared!

    The kid is rapid.

Good play again from Ajax, this time they do get wide and behind the United defence and Amin Younes flashes a dangerous ball across goal - no predatory striker is there though.

Watching Ajax in their build-up, everything is in front of Manchester United. Except for Bertrand Traore, who looks to have the pace to beat Matteo Darmian, I don't know where they can get behind them.

They are playing nice, pretty football but I can't see where they can hurt Manchester United.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, just booked, then catches a defender late, but he may have slipped in fact. Marcus Rashford tests the Ajax defence for pace again but Matthijs de Ligt does very well to stick with him.

What were you doing on a sunny Wednesday night when you were 17? Don't answer that in fact.

That yellow card for Mkhitaryan is the easiest decision that referee will have to make all season...

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 30 mins

    Ajax 0-1 Manchester United

It could be a time for leaders in the Ajax side to stand up and be counted. They only have two players who are 25 or older in this XI though.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the first man in the book for his fourth bodycheck on Joel Veltman.

Ajax have had 67% of possession so far. But they trail, and they do not look certain at the back to me. At all.

    Ajax 0-1 Manchester United

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Friends Arena, Stockholm

Jose Mourino was just showing one or two slight signs of frustration before Paul Pogba's deflected shot - but that was just the stroke of luck Manchester United needed to make their early superiority pay.

Ajax's youngsters have looked over-awed so far but they should not be written off. There is real talent in this fledgling team.

    A tale of two stats...

Paul Pogba has now scored in back to back games for Manchester United after a run of 19 games without a goal.

Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg's first touch in the final was the kick-off after Pogba's goal. Get into the game!

Another lengthy spell of Ajax pressure but it comes to nothing before Manchester United turn the ball over and fail to spot the easy ball! In behind, Marcus Rashford would have been gone.

Pogba looks fresh. He looks up for it.

He looks like he is ready to take this game by the scruff of the neck, like we have wanted to see from him all season.

You saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan sprint out and block an Ajax shot following that corner. If Davinson Sanchez or Davy Klaasen showed that desire then they might have blocked Paul Pogba's shot that led to the goal.

    Ajax 0-1 Manchester United

United captain Antonio Valencia attacks from right-back for the first time, again he easily runs past his man and gets a shot in! A tough angle, but a powerful connection and Andre Onana gets firmly behind it to beat it clear. Decent save, but Ajax don't appear to be able to compete physically one-on-one.

Paul Pogba showing his worth in both penalty areas, a big clearing header at the front post after Ajax forced another corner. Peter Bosz looks pensive on the sideline as Henrikh Mkhitaryan makes a second cheap foul tracking back in a few minutes.
