    Ajax 0-1 Manchester United

Manchester United launch it, it's headed on, and again, and Maroune Fellaini is almost in. Corner.

    Ajax 0-1 Manchester United

That is a lot of flares alight in the one end of the stadium. Ajax start brightly, moving the ball confidently from right to left but all they can muster is a blocked shot from 25 yards and Marouane Fellaini cuts the ball out and is fouled.

No changes yet - and away we go!

Flares lit in the Ajax end.

I think the final pass has been poor so far and I think a change is needed - Mkhitaryan needs to come off.

They have got to keep trying to get that ball into Marcus Rashford because the centre-backs look like they have a mistake in them.

Johnny Magrinho: Man U = stronger, faster, sharper & more alert. Ajax need a BIG half time team talk to have any chance of turning this around..

If Michael Carrick gets on in the second half by the way, and if Manchester United win, he will become the oldest Europa League winner, at 35 years and 300 days, taking over from Frank Lampard (34 years and 329 days old the day of Chelsea's 2013 success).

It hasn't been a vintage display, Jon. But Ajax don't look like scoring so far, to be honest.

A 1-0 win, second trophy in the bag and a place in the Champions League? I think Jose Mourinho would take that...

United fan here. This is absolutely woeful. No cohesion, every bouncing second ball won by Ajax midfielders. We are asking for it.

Yep, I can't see Henrikh Mkhitaryan carrying on. He is on a booking and had to pull out of a tackle near the end of that first half.

I don't think it's in Jose Mourinho's make up to try and go and get two or three more goals but they will be pleased.

I think they have bullied the Ajax midfield. Jose needs to make a decision here - I just wonder whether Lingard or Martial should come on to replace Mkhitaryan - he has put himself in a difficult situation with that yellow card.

Tonight Manchester United have made 102 completed passes compared to 254 by Ajax - that just proves they are playing the long ball.

A cup final isn't really the place for 'entertaining' football. And we didn't get it.

Perhaps Justin Kluivert is the man to come off the bench and rescue this for Ajax. 22 years to the day since his dad came on to win the Champions League for Ajax...

Ajax haven't got an out-ball to run behind the Manchester United defence. They haven't got the pace to beat Chris Smalling or Antonio Valencia. They need to get the ball to Bertrand Traore because he can.

United probably just about deserve to be in front. It was a fortunate goal but Ajax have not really threatened - although neither have United. It has been a midfield battle.

So far, so good for Manchester United.

    Ajax 0-1 Manchester United

You're only as good as your striker, a saying that I just conjured up from nowhere, but it applies to this Ajax side. 19-year-old Kasper Dolberg has had a fine season but he cannot get into the game at all. Every pass towards him is cut out, and he can't run in behind. He looks bullied by the United defence.

Betrand Traore is a different kettle of fish. He plays a neat one-two to get into the area and Matteo Darmian does well to come over and cut him off.

I'm not sure Sanchez was aware that Rashford was behind him. He should know Rashford will chase after everything. He was very fortunate.

A moment of panic again in the backline of Ajax! Davinson Sanchez, plenty of talent but plenty of errors if this half is anything to go by, chests down a long ball but then takes too long, and turns into trouble in the guise of Marcus Rashford.

Rashford is very close to winning that and having a clear run on goal...

Manchester United are in contain mode as we edge towards half time. Professional is the word I would use to describe this first-half display from Jose Mourinho's side.
