A sign of things to come for Arsenal? Not too long to find out as the Gunners kick off the Premier League campaign against Leicester on Friday night.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, speaking to BT Sport: "I didn't see the situation [with the sending off]. For me for this reason it is very difficult for me to say something about this decision. This is the second game, after the FA Cup, that we finish with 10 men.

"I heard there was clearly a penalty but I did not see. We are working, we are trying to do our best. We had a tough pre-season, between the six days until we start the league it is important to be focused on the next game."

A sign that Chelsea still need to strengthen? It was a brief glimpse, admittedly, but it's hard to see Alvaro Morata being a like-for-like replacement for Diego Costa. The Spain striker did not provide the same sort of physical presence in attack.

• This was Arsenal’s third shootout in the Community Shield, having lost their previous two against Manchester United in 1993 and 2003.
• Chelsea have now lost their last four Community Shield matches, last winning the trophy on penalties in the 2009 edition.
• The last two red cards issued in Community Shield matches have been to Chelsea players (Branislav Ivanovic in 2012, Pedro in 2017).
• There were just 82 seconds between Pedro’s red card and Sead Kolasinac’s equaliser.
• Kolasinac became the first player to open his goalscoring account for Arsenal in the Community Shield since Gilberto Silva in 2002.
• Victor Moses scored his first goal in 27 games for Chelsea in all competitions, since netting against Tottenham in November 2016.

Elijah: Lots of Chelsea fans blaming the red, ABBA etc... Surely they aren't ignoring the fact that their gk took a penalty.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, speaking to BT Sport: "Well, I don't know if it [Pedro] was a sending off or not but at that moment we were dominating. We had some difficult moments at the start of the second half but after that we dominated. We always looked dangerous.

"Every game is a battle in the Premier League, like today. It is a dream to make the fans happy, a difficult dream but we try hard. I would like they stand behind the team as we might go through some very good periods and some not so good periods.

"We want to be united and together throughout the season."

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte said recently he wanted to avoid a "Mourinho season", when the Blues suffered a slump after winning the Premier League title in 2014-15.

That "Mourinho season" also started with a defeat by Arsenal in the Community Shield...

Arsenal’s win means the FA Cup winning side has now won the last four editions of the Community Shield, with the Gunners responsible for three of those.

Not the best start to the season when your goalkeeper steps up to take a spot kick ahead of your new £60m striker - and both miss. Arsenal on the other hand couldn't have hoped for a better shootout, scoring four out of four.

Glum-looking Chelsea players wander up to collect their runners-up medals. They are keen to get it over and done quickly before Arsene Wenger leads his players up to collect the trophy. He's won the Community Shield seven times in his nine appearances.

Alexis Sanchez joins the celebrations on the pitch, shaking hands with all of his team-mates before waving to the Arsenal fans.

Maybe he will stick around if this trophy is the first of many but is a Community Shield win a precursor for Premier League success? Since 1992, 52% of teams that have won the traditional curtain-raiser have gone on to claim the league title in the same season.

The penalty system is not that difficult to understand. If anyone did not get the memo before they will have worked it out by now.
