There was no doubt in my mind that as soon as I saw it that challenge deserved some colour of card. My gut? A strong yellow.

But Chelsea can't argue with that decision because he was out of control.

It was stupid, not malicious... and now I've seen a replay Gary Cahill has no argument - that is a straight red card.

Oh, it's ugly. Cahill's control lets him down as the ball gets away from him, causing him to lunge after it and going right through Steven Defour. He probably didn't mean to hurt the man, but it is very dangerous. Now we have a game on our hands!

Whoa! Wait, what?! Cahill has been sent off! What has the new Chelsea club captain done?

Danger! Azpilicueta's ball into the box almost falls for Willian to shoot from just eight yards out but a last-ditch smash away from James Tarkowski saves Burnley.

The Clarets need to get hold of the ball. They can't expect to keep hammering it away, allow Chelsea to repeatedly attack them and survive for long.

It's not ideal to have to sell Andre Gray at the beginning of the week leading up to the first game of the Premier League season, but Burnley are working hard to find a replacement. Chris Wood, the Leeds striker, is being strongly tipped for a move back to the Premier League.

Chelsea are warming to the task. They're starting to press this hardworking Burnley side back into their own half. Willian floats the ball into the box but a free-kick is conceded from a tussle in the box.

Now the Blues are in down the right courtesy of a floated ball out wide to Cesar Azpilicueta. However, the Spaniard's first-time cross is poor and loops behind the goal.

Antonio Conte is on his feet immediately, yelling, throwing his arms about, barking instructions at his men.

The Blues get in down the left but Stephen Ward produces a superb diving tackle in the box to prevent Marcos Alonso's low cross causing bother.

It is going to be tough for Burnley today. They have sold Andre Gray which I was surprised at. They won one game away from home last season, so I cannot see them winning at Chelsea today.

The resulting free-kick is swung in by Robbie Brady and headed towards goal by Ben Mee but straight at Courtois.

I expect excitement today. Beforehand many might have thought "little old Burnley" wouldn't stand much of a chance here at Stamford Bridge. But it doesn't feel like that - the visitors look more than ready while the hosts look threadbare.

Chelsea have not been good opponents for Burnley of late. The Blues are unbeaten in the past six meetings with the Clarets, all of which came in the Premier League.

To add to that, Burnley have gone eight league matches without an away win in this fixture since a 1-0 top-flight victory in April 1971.

Here we go again...

I think Burnley have enough nous for them to stay in this division, but it will be a battle.

The Premier League trophy is on show at Stamford Bridge, brought out on to the field by Eden Hazard and Pedro, neither of whom play today.
