After the second goal, you could visibly see the Brighton players' heads drop and their shoulders shrink. They have put in a good evening's work but they have got a long way to go. They will be happy to stay in the league.

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

This is one of those games where you probably don't really need any injury time.

  3. 'I prefer Silva with his floppy hair'published at 19:18 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

I think I prefer Silva with his floppy hair.

It's safe to say David Silva's new 'do' has been quite a talking point this evening...

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

Brighton's Pascal Gross' cross from the left goes straight out of play. Some Albion fans are leaving early (well a few at least). First top-flight game in 34 years, you'd think you might see it through until the end.

  5. 'It is a job well done'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

I think it is as much as Pep Guardiola could have hoped for against the enthusiasm of a team promoted for the first time in 30-odd years and it is a job well done.

Dan Washbourne: Well, they're not bad this Manchester City lot. Not quite a Huddersfield Town yet though are they?

Nick Clohessy: City have spent £52m on 2 keepers, both of whom are inferior to Joe Hart. When Pep has to build a back line he is clueless.

David Tomlinson: City are liking a predator ready to pounce - at any sign of weakness, Aguero applies the killer touch - ruthless.

Nothing to see here. We're just easing towards a routine Manchester City win.

  8. 'The sooner the whistle blows, the better for Brighton'published at 19:13 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

I think they will be relieved when they hear the full-time whistle. From their point of view, the sooner the whistle blows, the better.

Aguero always seems to come off before the 90 minutes is up. If you look back on his record, he scores goals but he just doesn't often complete the full 90. It doesn't surprise me.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 83 mins

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

Manchester City bring on £42m summer signing from Monaco, Bernardo Silva, for his debut. Off comes Sergio Aguero. City now have no 'proper strikers' on the pitch.

Raheem Sterling goes into the book for breaking up a Brighton attack with a foul.

  12. 'Everything has been comfortable for Ederson'published at 19:10 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

    Fred Eyre
Former Man City player on BBC Radio Manchester

Ederson has had so little to do. Everything has been comfortable. He has not been tested at all. Obviously, we would love many more of these games where he doesn't have much to do.

  13. Postpublished at 80 mins

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

Brighton have a couple of corners. If they're going to come back, they have to score soon. Ederson catches a corner and rolls the ball to a team-mate. Ten minutes left.

  14. 'Brighton have lost a bit of spark'published at 19:07 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

    Fred Eyre
Former Man City player on BBC Radio Manchester

It would have been a lot to expect Brighton fresh from the Championship to go a full 90 minutes without conceding, and that is the way it has turned out.

It is a little bit predictable, but Brighton had to start somewhere. They look like they have lost a bit of spark.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 77 mins

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

Manchester City bring on Raheem Sterling for Gabriel Jesus. I'm not sure the Jesus-Sergio Aguero partnership really worked despite the scoreline.

A couple of minutes ago, Brighton brought on promotion hero Anthony Knockaert for Solly March.

  16. 'It is a more realistic scoreline'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Brighton 0-2 Man City

    Fred Eyre
Former Man City player on BBC Radio Manchester

It looks a more realistic scoreline, to be honest.

GOAL - Brighton 0-2 Man Citypublished at 75 mins

    Lewis Dunk own goal

It's a slam DUNK for Manchester City. Sergio Aguero gets the ball to Fernandinho down the right and Lewis Dunk heads the Brazilian's cross past his own keeper. He was under pressure but he got so much power in it, it's like he was at the other end trying to score.

    Will Davies:‘The midfield aren’t providing’ - I think I spoke too soon!

Bright Eugene: Aguero resumes his normal proceedings...

Mat VP: Going to make a bold call. Brighton are going to be relegated by April. Really not seen anything, no pace, no skill, poor defence.

    Brighton 0-1 Man City

Skills (skillz?) by Kyle Walker as he skips past two Brighton defenders, who have to illegally bring him to the ground. Free-kick to City. It's deflected out for a corner.

  20. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Man City

It's hard to see Brighton scoring an equaliser based on what we've seen so far.
