Richard Smith: The worry for United is the lack of natural goal scorers and characters within this team

Rhys: Actually hoping for a tight game. Interesting to see if Pogba does better now he has been freed up by Matic. Hopefully he might discover the goal more now!

Ahnaf Tahmed Faiz‏: Antonio Valencia captaining the side gives me a sense of pride, such a selfless individual. Should get used to it.

Daley Blind is on corner duty. He finds Eric Bailly for a near-post flick but the ball is hacked clear and then allowed to run behind for a goal-kick from a poor return cross.

There are a few fellas putting the unit into the United of their respective teams. Obiang, Pogba and Arnautovic are all big lads. I'd probably back Lukaku in a four-man, over-the-top battle royale.

Lukaku's first charge in anger wins his side a corner...

Well played Antonio Valencia. West Ham are away down the left but Marko Arnautovic's low ball into the box is cut out by the home full-back just inside his own box.

Welcome back to Old Trafford Chicharito! The West Ham striker turns Phil Jones but gets a sliding tackle to the ankle for his trouble. He got plenty of applause from the home fans before kick-off.

Not so Joe Hart, who is currently getting informed that he is a "City reject" by a few thousand folk in red.

Jose Mourinho on BBC Radio 5 live: "I'm not a difficult person to work with and I understand that my club by doing 75% of what I initially asked, I don't think I'm in a position of crying, of moaning, of protesting. I am happy with the effort the club did.

"I am happy that the club managed to do 75% of the work before the Premier League starts. And if until the 31st August, the remaining 25% do not arrive, I will just go with what I have."

    Man Utd v West Ham

West Ham owner David Gold has just popped down from the comfort of the Old Trafford director's box to have a quick chinwag with our colleagues over on BBC Radio 5 live.

"We are very optimistic we have brought in four top-quality players to improve that first team," he says.

"We think this has been a particular good summer as opposed to last year when our signings weren't good. It turned out to be a bad period.

"The difference this summer is that we said to ourselves we needed players with experience in the Premier League and who were seasoned internationals.

"To that end we believe we will be a better side."

As you know, Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez have arrived in east London this summer.

Alvaro Arbeloa, Havard Nortveidt, Jonathan Calleri and Simone Zaza - all of who have since left - were among last summer's signings.

The West Ham fans are already in good voice. They'll have to get used to the travelling for the next month. Thanks to the athletics World Championships they won't be playing at home until 11 September.

So, if you want action from the London Stadium you'll have to head over here.

Meanwhile, back at Old Trafford, the teams are heading out...

    Steve Wilson
Match of the Day commentator at Old Trafford

"You can't argue with two trophies last season, but this time Manchester United fans will demand a proper title challenge.

"Four seasons have gone by since United last finished in the league's top three, after 22 seasons in which they never finished outside it.

"Slaven Bilic will be among the favourites for the sack if West Ham's season doesn't show early promise, and that would be great shame.

"Signing Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta has brought in experience and some much-needed strength of character, but it's the return to the Premier League of Javier Hernandez which has caused most interest - finally West Ham may have a striker who knows where the goal is."

Ex-Middlesbrough and Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer: “West Ham arguably had the best transfer out of all the teams, in terms of quality and Premier League experience it is up there.

“It is important to see and hear Jose Mourinho, the message he is putting out, he is happy now, he feels confident and knows he will contest for the title. I think they have a big possibility of winning the title this season.”

Oyetunji Ojo: Great tactics from Mourinho, but what's wrong picking Anthony Martial? The young Frenchman is a huge value to United's attack

Jay: I hope Chicharito scores a hat-trick and Manchester United win - guaranteed entertainment and a fitting end to the week.

Peter: Pogba really needs to step up this season especially if he is being "freed up" by Matic coming in. Can't afford to have slack undroppable players.

West Ham have a number of new (well, old) faces on show. Keeper Joe Hart and right-back Pablo Zabaleta, former Manchester City players of course, start for the visitors, as do ex-Stoke man Marko Arnautovic and, of course, Javier Hernandez.

One suspects Mexico striker Hernandez, who helped United win two Premier League titles during a five-year spell might receive a rather different reception to his comrades Hart and Zabaleta...

Hernandez starts up top in a 4-2-3-1 formation as Mark Noble - who is starting 14th season with the Hammers - skippers the side.
