I feel for Vincent Kompany, who is missing again. His head must be everywhere. Hopefully it is just fatigue, not a long-term issue. When he's playing he's the difference between City winning the league and not. You can't win the league without a strong defence.

Guardiola mentioned Eliaquim Mangala playing and that is worrying because what is their relationship even like? He has been farmed out on loan. Has there been a lack of communication? They are very thin at the back.

    Mark HuighesImage source, Stoke

What do the following clubs have in common: Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Stoke?

They are the only current Premier League clubs who can boast 10 consecutive years in the top flight.

That's no mean achievement for Stoke, whose development as a club has been overseen carefully and wisely by chairman Peter Coates.

Manchester United are reacquainting themselves with the feeling of being at the very top of the top flight.

They have maximum points from their opening three league games without conceding a goal, and there are signs their old swagger is returning too.

Will Virgil van Dijk return to the Southampton defence or might fellow Dutch international Wesley Hoedt make his debut? However, it's in attack where Saints haven't convinced, failing to score in two of their three league matches.

In contrast, Richarlison is an exciting forward who I saw score in Watford's win at Bournemouth, and Peru international Andre Carrillo could make his first start, having previously played under Marco Silva at Sporting.

Both teams have kept two clean sheets so far, meaning a repeat of March's seven-goal thriller at Vicarage Road may not be on the cards - we can hope though!

Older Chelsea and Leicester fans will fondly remember Chris Garland., external He was one of my first heroes at Bristol City before leaving for Stamford Bridge and Filbert Street.

I immediately thought of him when Danny Drinkwater became the latest player to move between the two.

In December 2015, Drinkwater and N'Golo Kante inspired a 2-1 Leicester win that ended Jose Mourinho's Chelsea reign. Now their partnership will be renewed at their old club! It's an inspired Chelsea signing.

Leicester caught a cold over the Adrien Silva deal, but they can still make things very difficult at a fever pitch King Power Stadium for the team who took their Premier League crown.

Chris, who has endured tough times, would love to be playing in this one.

  6. Koeman hopes for on-field headlinespublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 9 September 2017

    Everton v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

    Steve Bower

    Ronald KOemanImage source, Getty Images

This match is where it all began for Ronald Koeman on Merseyside, but his Everton team look very different from the one that drew with Spurs at Goodison just over a year ago.

Ross Barkley played and scored for starters. After his off-the-field discussions with Barkley and, of course, Wayne Rooney this week, Koeman will be hoping for some on-the-field headlines as Everton continue their challenging start to the league campaign.

Tottenham have a week away from Wembley questions and theories and go in search of a fourth consecutive win on the road for the first time since January 2014.

Harry Kane has seen August pass and can look forward to September and continue his search for his 100th goal for the club. You get the sense anything could happen in this one.

  7. Brighton's long wait for a goal...published at 11:47 British Summer Time 9 September 2017

Brighton v West Brom (15:00 BST)

    John Motson
    Match of the Day commentator

It is 34 years since Brighton's last top-flight goal and they could become the fourth team to fail to score in their opening four games of a Premier League campaign.

But, rather surprisingly, none of the previous three (Swansea, Newcastle and Sheffield Wednesday) went on to be relegated.

Brighton broke their club record transfer fee three times this summer but chairman Tony Bloom admits they were very disappointed to miss out on a striker, with a deadline-day move for Tottenham's Vincent Janssen one of several deals which could not be completed.

They may find it hard to break down a West Brom side who, despite failing to hang on for victory against Stoke, have made a flying start to the season.

The signing of Poland midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, on loan from Paris St-Germain, is also a real coup for the Baggies.

  8. 'The feelgood factor has gone'published at 11:46 British Summer Time 9 September 2017

Rarely can a team have gone into their second home game of the season with as much baggage as Arsenal this weekend.

Any feel-good factor in the summer following the FA Cup and Community Shield victories over Chelsea has already evaporated with a poor start to the season on the field and a shambolic end, external to the transfer window off it.

The international break provided more than enough time for everyone to digest and discuss the nature of the 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool, so only a convincing performance will ease some of the tension.

Bournemouth are one of three Premier League teams still looking for their first point. They've never avoided defeat away to Arsenal before, but did give them a fright in January, leading 3-0 at home before being pegged back to 3-3.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp got the better of Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola last season, winning at Anfield before an enthralling draw at Etihad Stadium. Can he continue that run today? We now have glorious sunshine here after a lengthy torrential downpour before kick-off.

The playing surface would already have been slick but some City groundstaff are out giving the grass a final cut.

To suit City's passing game perhaps?
