PMQs: Tory Douglas Ross shown 'red card' by SNP's John McNally

This may well be the most bizarre story of the night...

The prime minister has defended Tory MP Douglas Ross, who is to miss a vote on Universal Credit to be an assistant referee at a Champions League match.

Mr Ross is in Spain for the Barcelona v Olympiakos game and Theresa May was forced to defend him at Westminster after SNP MP John McNally raised the issue.

Brandishing a red card across the chamber, the Falkirk MP said Mrs May "will be aware that the honourable member for Moray is not in his place - indeed he is in Barcelona doing his other job, today of all days".

Alvaro Morata returns to Chelsea's starting line-up tonight after missing the defeat at Crystal Palace with a hamstring injury.

There's actually been a fair bit of interaction between Roma's players and some of the Chelsea coaching staff out on the pitch ahead of kick-off with plenty of acquaintances being renewed from their time in Italy.

Angel di Maria, Julian Draxler and Javier Pastore.

It is not just Paris St Germain's starting XI that shows the French side's strength, it is the subs bench.

That trio are among the replacements with Thiago Motta, Marco Verratti and Adrien Rabiot in midfield behind the familiar front three of Edison Cavani, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Dani Alves returns at right-back after missing the 2-1 win over Dijon at the weekend.

Unai Emery's side are two wins from two so far in Group B

Phil Neville won his 50th England cap in this stadium and he’s our summariser tonight on 5live Sport. Ahead of the game he said: “I think this should be relatively straightforward tonight. Jose said yesterday that this is going to be the toughest game of the group - I don’t think it is.

"This is not the Benfica that we have seen in previous years - they still have talented players but I think if United play as they can it will be straightforward for them tonight.”

So far, so good for Chelsea who picked up an exceptional win in Madrid last time out. A win tonight would put them in a fantastic position. Even a draw would do nicely.

You can see a lovely mix of team colours on the walk down Fulham Road which is brightening up the place in the early evening drizzle and the sonorous sound of a few Italian voices adds to the slightly harder edge of the London accents. It's Champions League night in West London and Roma are in town, a club which has only won 1 of its 15 away games in England. That might bring some cheer to Chelsea fans who've seen their team lose its last two games since the superb away win against Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata is set to return from a hamstring injury as the Blues look to maintain their 100% start to the Champions League against Roma.

The Spaniard, who sustained the injury while playing against Manchester City last month, missed Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.

Wing-back Victor Moses has not trained since being substituted at Selhurst Park with a hamstring injury.

Midfielders N'Golo Kante (hamstring) and Danny Drinkwater (calf) are out.

"I could take a risk on Saturday to force Morata to play against Crystal Palace, but I'm not so stupid," Blues manager Antonio Conte said.

"I'm not taking a risk if I decide for Morata to play against Roma."
