Fred: I told my brother the Liverpool Newcastle 4-3 score before match of the day; he told me Santa Claus didn't exist as pay back.

    Obviously that's not true.

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho tells BT Sport: "We have only three midfield players available and managed to give 60 minutes rest to Nemanja Matic at Swansea in the League Cup. Ander Herrera has been playing every match since losing our other three midfield players (Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick) and needs a break.

"Scott McTominay is working, he played some minutes and it is a big match, a big occasion for him. We play him because we believe his answer can be positive. He is ready.

"Chelsea on Sunday in the Premier League is not in my mind at all. The important thing is to qualify. We are not there yet, so we need points in the remaining matches. We will try to do that tonight.

"The crowd are normally behind us. We have enjoyed some good moments here at Old Trafford and this season we are having good results. Let's see if we can continue that."

Carl in Southport: As the antithesis to ‘don’t tell me the score’, I was once out shopping in Harrogate on a Saturday afternoon and at 3:45 I looked in a TV rental window (remember them) for the Spurs v United score , we were losing 3-0. I never bothered checking the final score as I just assumed we lost. I put on MOtD that night oblivious to our glorious comeback, Unbelievable!

Is this what you're referring to, Carl?

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte on returning to Italy, to BT Sport: "It's a bit strange. For me this is the first time. I'm very happy to be in this stadium. I have great memories from this stadium.

"Every game, we try to win and find the best solution. We'll see what happens on the pitch. Roma are a really good team. They played a good game at Stamford Bridge."

Remember having to go out for my dad's birthday meal during Euro 2012. The game that night was Portugal Spain and me and my brother wanted to watch it. So we recorded it and made sure we didn't find out the score. Got home and put the recording on and then sat through the most awful two hours of football I can remember as it finished 0-0 before Spain eventually put us out of our misery by winning the shootout

I remember doing that game, it was dreadful. At least you saw the Sergio Ramos shootout Panenka...

What would make you happy tonight, Brendan Rodgers is asked.

    Long answer follows.

Extract - "We have to be aggressive and physical in our game and do a little bit more with our attacking play. It is a big ask but at home we always have that belief."

I feel sorry for Shaw having to be managed by Mourinho. His only crime was to break a leg in two places and has been treated like a second rate schoolboy ever since. Sean, Somerset.

Luke Shaw is on the bench tonight, with Daley Blind preferred at left-back.

Twenty-five minutes until kick-off in Rome. In all our host cities tonight.

Edin Dzeko has just got better and better since leaving Manchester City. Is he going to be the thorn in Chelsea's side tonight?

Is this the first defeat in the Champions League for an English side this season?

  14. What do Celtic need?published at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2017

Celtic v Bayern Munich (19:45 GMT)

Three points from three games - when two of them have been against Bayern Munich and PSG - is a respectable total for Brendan Rodgers and co, but it does make qualification unlikely.

They are probably chasing third and a place in the Europa League after Christmas.

Celtic will not be able to finish the top two if they lose and PSG avoid defeat against Anderlecht.

  15. Some players are bigger than otherspublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2017

    I have just discovered

Here's something you knew already, but has now been stated by scientists. Ready?

There is no correlation between the average height of a team's players and its success, says a new report.

A study by CIES Football Observatory found the average height of a player in 31 European top flights was 5ft 9.7in.

    Image caption,

If only Dave Silva, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling were all 6ft 3ins tall eh?

Manchester City and Everton were found to be the shortest teams on average in the Premier League, with West Brom and Huddersfield the tallest.

"The gaps observed rather reflect different approaches to the game," said the report's authors.

"While some coaches prefer tall players, other give priority to shorter ones. However, very short players will struggle to establish themselves as professionals."

    Just don't tell Gordon Strachan.

Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC 5 live

It is an incredible atmosphere in here. The noise puts hairs on the back of your neck. It is a really motivating factor.

You have to play with your head and not your heart at times and you have to handle all of that but I think the players have learnt to deal with that now.

They have been around the Champions League under Brendan Rodgers for a while now.

Chris Martin: Friends went to a Friday night away game at St Johnstone. The Mrs & I had plans so recorded the game, switched off my phone and was looking forward to a glorious Aberdeen away win when I got home.

Despite many attempts by my friends to contact my wife to tell me not to watch it, I got home at midnight, put my recorded game on and managed to endure a horrific performance completely oblivious to the end 3-0 result until it was too late #dedicated, external.
