There's no surprise there. Jose Mourinho has to make sure that on Sunday against Chelsea he has all his big guns full of energy. Sunday is a massive game for him. He's going back to his old club and he knows it's a massive opportunity to put down a real big marker.

It's a sporting battle with a difference. On one side, 20,000 football fans, with a maths geek up front. On the other, officialdom, strong in defence.

The tussle at its heart? Whether the football on British road signs should be an accurate depiction of the real thing.

Currently, the image on the sign is made entirely of hexagons but a ball like that would be geometrically impossible to make.

Instead, a real football has a mixture of hexagons and pentagons - and maths crusader Matt Parker has started a petition to get that changed.

However, despite 20,000 people signing up to support him, the government has given them the red card.

  3. Who else can progress tonight?published at 18:52 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2017

    (Answer: loads of teams)

Barcelona will qualify from Group D if they beat Olympiakos and Juventus don't lose to Sporting Lisbon. A Barca draw will be enough if Juventus win.

Juve are through if they win and Barca don't lose.

In a similar vein, Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich can both help to send each other through tonight. PSG will qualify if they beat Anderlecht, and Bayern don't lose to Celtic. A draw would do PSG if Bayern win.

Bayern will progress from Group B if they win and PSG don't lose.

In Group A, Basel are through if they beat CSKA Moscow at home and Manchester United avoid defeat at home to Benfica.

    Olympiakos v Barcelona (19:45 GMT)

Ernesto Valverde's Barca side will qualify for the last 16 if they better the result of Sporting Lisbon, who are at home to Juventus.

Valverde managed Olympiakos in two spells between 2008 and 2012.

"It's emotional to come here to Athens, to this stadium, for what it has meant to me and for what is at stake," said Valverde, 53.

"Even though they (Olympiakos fans) will give me a good reception, I'm sure they will be right behind their team."

Olympiakos, who are still without a point in Group D, will see their slim hopes of qualification end if they lose and Juventus avoid defeat away at Sporting Lisbon.

It wasn't a thriller a fortnight ago but it was 'job done' by Manchester United. Benfica were a very poor side though.

I know their results have since picked up and Jose Mourinho continues to say they are a better side than the other teams in the group, but they certainly weren't from what we saw the other night.

Mourinho did say yesterday he won't be thinking of the Chelsea game (in the Premier League.) In his mind, he wants to get the win tonight and qualify for the next round.

Striker Kylian Mbappe could be dropped for Paris St-Germain's Champions League group match against Anderlecht.

Mbappe, 18, is on loan at PSG from Monaco and will become the second most expensive player in history when he completes a permanent 180m euros (£160m) move in the summer.

The Frenchman has scored four goals in his first 10 PSG games, but struggled in his last two Ligue 1 matches.

"It is a new experience for him," said PSG coach Unai Emery.

"When you play well, you open all the papers and you listen to all the sports shows and they say that you are the best.

Edin Dzeko has always been underrated. His movement is good, he is big and strong. He took his time to take off at Roma but he is their main man.

The goal he scored in the first game was absolutely sensational. He is a very underrated striker, very underrated.

Lukaku should be "untouchable" - Mourinho

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku should be "untouchable" from fans' criticism, says manager Jose Mourinho.

The £75m summer signing from Everton, 24, scored 11 goals in his first 10 games - but none in his last five.

"What he does for the team is fantastic and to play football for a striker is not just about scoring goals," said the Manchester United boss.

"I think Romelu is one of the players who should be untouchable in terms of respect from everyone."

The Belgium forward, sold by Mourinho while he was Chelsea manager, drew his fifth blank in a row against Tottenham on Saturday - but did set up Anthony Martial's winner.

Chelsea make only one change from the side who beat Bournemouth 1-0 on Saturday. Captain Gary Cahill replaces Davide Zappacosta, who drops to the bench. Eden Hazard starts again. N'Golo Kante doesn't return from the hamstring injury which has kept him out for a month.

Roma make three switches from Saturday's 1-0 win over Bologna. Former Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov, star midfielder Radja Nainggolan and Diego Perotti all come in. Edin Dzeko, who scored twice at Stamford Bridge, starts.

    Roma v Chelsea (19:45 GMT)

    George Cummins
    BBC Radio 5 live

For Chelsea tonight the equation is simple. Win in Rome and they qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League.

Just over a month ago, BBC Radio 5 live were in Madrid for Chelsea's 2-1 win over Atletico. It was one of the club's finest performances under Antonio Conte.

Despite winning their past three games, Chelsea have struggled to play with the same intensity that made them champions last season.

The good news though, is that Eden Hazard is getting back to his best. The bad news is that N'Golo Kante is not fit after a hamstring injury, which he picked up while on international duty.

A point will keep Chelsea in pole position in Group C before they travel to Qarabag in two weeks time, but they will want it wrapped up before Atletico Madrid visit London in December.
