Jose Mourinho is trying to raise the atmosphere at Old Trafford. He had a little pop at the crowd last season.

The crowd do sometimes expect three or four goals and they can sometimes go quiet. Roy Keane made a comment a few years ago too.

It might just be a bit of a gee up for the supporters, like what he does for his players.

Steve: Was working late and avoided England beating Germany 5-1 so I could watch highlights when I got home...only for the announcer at the train station to let everyone know the score when I got off at the station.

Michael: I once tried to avoid the football results. Whilst watching the news the presenter said ‘if you don’t want to know today’s scores, look away now’. I covered my eyes, and he read them out...

Peter: I never find out the scores before MOTD. The phone is taken off Wi-fi for the weekend and any person I meet who isn't aware of my ritual is quickly informed.

Chelsea's draw with Roma last time out was excellent. As good a game as you get at this stage of the tournament.

That point means that a win in Rome tonight puts Chelsea through. It's as straightforward as permutations get.

It will not be a straightforward task though.

With three wins from three so far it's been smooth sailing for Jose Mourinho's men.

They will be into the last 16 if they win tonight and CSKA Moscow fail to beat Basel, or if they draw and CSKA lose.

It is fair to say the city of Lancaster is not a footballing hotbed.

The most famous player, so far, to come from Lancaster is James Beattie, who won five caps for England.

Scott McTominay has a plenty of work ahead if he is to even achieve that status, although he has previously said his international future lies with Scotland rather than England.

    He remains eligible for both.

Manchester United have given 20-year-old midfielder Scott McTominay a first start in the Champions League, it his his sixth appearance overall for the club.

The Lancaster-born player made his debut for the Red Devils late last season in the Premier League against Arsenal.

His inclusion takes the club's run of including a youth team player in every first-team squad to a remarkable 3,883 games.

That milestone began 80 years and one day ago on 30 October 1937.

Another academy player Jesse Lingard starts too, while Wythenshawe's Marcus Rashford is on the bench.

This is what Antonio Conte had to say about Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante yesterday:

"We have two big games before the international break.

"Kante trained with us. He trained before the Bournemouth match but I think its very important to speak with the player and see his sensation. I was a player and know very well about muscular injuries.

"It's very important to listen to the player and make the best decision for him and for the team."

Conte must be saving Kante for Manchester United on Sunday.

    An all-time classic Alan...

Chelsea in the Champions League final. Worked in a two-star restaurant in Cambridge at the time. Had to avoid overhearing customers talking about it, checking their phones etc. Had asked all the staff not to tell me the score. Made it to midnight, ready to go home and watch the recording when a trainee chef walked up to me and said ‘Bloody hell Alan, Chelsea have won the Champions League!’ As annoyed as I was I dread to think what my reaction would have been had he told me we lost....

  15. Bayern missing some big gunspublished at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2017

Celtic v Bayern Munich (19:45 GMT)

We already knew that in-form Poland striker Robert Lewandowski, injured on Saturday against Leipzig, and strike partner Thomas Muller would be missing for Bayern.

Head coach Jupp Heynckes has made four other changes from that Bundesliga win, with the German media suggesting he has one eye on this weekend's big league clash with main rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Germany defenders Joshua Kimmich and Mats Hummels drop to the bench along with midfielders Thiago and Sebantian Rudy.

Niklas Sule and Rafinha come into the defence, while Arturo Vidal, Cortentina Tolisso and Kingsley Coman coming into midfield, the latter having shaken off an injury.

Could those changes give Celtic a window of opportunity?

It's just upset their rhythm. I don't see a problem with the depth of their squad.
