Here we go then! There are not many fans in for this dead rubber in Nicosia. Which, if the clothing on display is anything to go by, is a bit chilly tonight.

Fraser Hornby is an imposing figure! His elder brother, who also came through the ranks at Northampton Town, was only a slight figure but Frase looks like a bit of a giant up front...

  2. Are you watching Ronald?published at 17:56 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2017

It is over a month since Everton sacked Ronald Koeman - will he be watching tonight?

He appears to be going through the old family scrapbooks this evening...

The bizarre thing about this Everton squad is that it is largely made up of youth-team players, and is managed by Craig Shakespeare, who has been at the club for about a week.

Surely it would make more sense for David Unsworth - who presumably knows these kids well - to take this game?

Gylfi Sigurdsson says new Everton boss Sam Allardyce has given the club "a little bit of spark" before the Merseyside derby on Sunday [14:15 GMT].

Everton face Liverpool having won their last two games since appointing Allardyce to succeed Ronald Koeman five weeks after he was first sacked.

But they play free-scoring Liverpool having not won at Anfield in 18 years.

"It's been too long," said the 28-year-old attacking midfielder. "Hopefully that will change this weekend."

Everton assistant Craig Shakespeare on BT Sport: "It gives an opportunity to the young players, it's great to promote from within. The fringe players need this game as well.

"You're always learning about players and forming opinions. We're new, we're fresh.

"We don't want to finish bottom of the group, let's be honest."

Sam Allardyce doesn't work Thursday nights - it's a Rogan Josh and a pint of Director's for £7.99 at his local Wetherspoons and then he plays darts.

I jest of course - Big Sam will miss tonight's match at Apollon Limassol in Cyprus because of a "pre-arranged medical appointment".

First-team coaches Craig Shakespeare and Duncan Ferguson will be in charge for the trip.

"Sam will be back at the training ground on Thursday and Friday," said Shakespeare.

"He had a prior medical arrangement and he had to keep to that. It's nothing too serious.

"I will speak to Sam about how we will communicate during the game, see what he wants to do and get some clarity on that."

Apollon Limassol v Everton (18:00 GMT)

Everton, with nothing to play for and a Merseyside derby on Sunday, make 11 changes from the side who beat Huddersfield.

There are professional debuts for Scotland Under-19 striker Fraser Hornby and Republic of Ireland Under-21 left-back Harry Charsley. Morgan Feeney makes his first start.

Joel Robles, Kevin Mirallas, Davy Klaassen and Morgan Schneiderlin are among the fringe players to come in.

None of Everton's seven substitutes have ever played a first-team game - for anyone.
