Burnley v Crystal Palace (13:30 BST)

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is never one to make too many changes and he makes just one today - in comes striker Chris Wood for Scott Arfield.

Palace make three changes. Is that also a change of system? It looks like it.

In come Jeff Schlupp, Yohan Cabaye and Lee Chung-yong, who makes his 100th Premier League appearance.

Burnley: Heaton; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward; Gudmundsson, Cork, Defour, Brady; Wood, Vokes

Palace: Hennessey; Ward, Dann, Fosu-Mensah, Schlupp; Cabaye, McArthur; Townsend, Puncheon, Chung-yong; Benteke

Former Sunderland and Republic of Ireland midfielder Kevin Kilbane: "It is almost as if Pep Guardiola said to Kevin de Bruyne that he should play alongside Fernandino in midfield, keep it solid, but when we have the ball go and hurt the opposition in the final third.

"He has given him the licence to be the creative spark. If you are a City fan and have bought a season ticket you are going to get great value this season. I think they will out-score sides on a regular basis."

Former Blackburn and England striker Chris Sutton: "In the final third they have so much talent. David Silva can play anywhere and it is important that they keep them fit. City have players who are confident on the ball and will take it in tight situations - that is where they are a step up from Liverpool."

You need to give a manager x amount of games, and that number is higher than three, definitely! The thinking of Steve Parish last year, he looked at the table and saw that Palace are eighth in the away table but have relegation form at home.

So he got Frank de Boer and wants to play a possession style of football to push teams back, play with a back three, and that now looks a catastrophic decision. It happened with Fulham when I was there, a steady Premier League club looks to go to the next level and you have a massive risk doing that.

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

If you get someone in from Ajax you are buying a brand of football. The Ajax way, everyone knows that. You have to give that time to bed in.

But Palace are not built that way. Do Palace fans want to see them playing out from the back? Or would they rather get the ball to Wilfried Zaha and let him entertain the fans? To change the whole style and then think it's not working after three games...they have to stick with De Boer. It's an unforgiving league.

Frank de Boer is only the fifth manager in Premier League history to see their first three games in charge of a club end as a defeat without his side scoring – the other four were Gianluca Vialli at Chelsea, Kevin Ball at Sunderland, Steve McClaren at Middlesbrough and Stuart Gray at Southampton.

  7. How did Mane's red card affect the game?published at 12:22 British Summer Time 10 September 2017

    Manchester City 5-0 Liverpool

    MOTD2 Extra

Former Blackburn and England striker Chris Sutton: "It was such a big moment in the game. Liverpool were 1-0 down but still in it and were a threat. Jurgen Klopp didn't react in the manner we would expect. He was so disappointed with the decision but they did go to pieces."

Former Sunderland and Republic of Ireland midfielder Kevin Kilbane: "I thought they would be more condensed after taking Mohamed Salah off but he was their main out ball and they lost that by taking him off. You'd think they would just try and see the game through but they didn't do that."

Independent chief football correspondent Miguel Delaney: "There were still so many moments where Salah was getting in behind Nicolas Otamendi, who was really struggling."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche on the lack of patience in football: "This game never ceases to amaze me with the managerial outlook. Demand is high and it's instant.

"The idea of building is few and far between now. The only way you can build now is to win.

"The biggest thing for Palace, from the outside looking in, is they were looking for a whole culture change. It's hard enough to take over as a new manager anyway, then you add that in and it's difficult."

Even by today's fast-moving standards, a manager needing to win to save his job, external in just his fourth league game into it seems extreme.

That appears to be the case with Frank de Boer though, with a feeling that his preferred style won't work with the Palace players he has inherited - or certainly not quickly enough.

Is it worth pointing out that Sam Allardyce only won one point from his first five Palace games last season?

As de Boer looks for a formation and formula that could suggest future progress, Burnley have no need to change anything.

They have made a more than solid start under a sound manager approaching five years in charge. A settled Premier League outfit.

  12. Is the sack the answer?published at 12:02 British Summer Time 10 September 2017

Burnley v Crystal Palace (13:30 BST)

Sacking a manager so early in the season does seem drastic.

But it can also work. Northampton sacked Justin Edinburgh on transfer deadline day, and yesterday new man Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink saw the team score after 21 seconds and win for the first time this season.

He also ditched an unpopular three-at-the-back system. Sound familiar...?

Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

It's worrying for Crystal Palace. How many managers have they gone through in a few years? The numbers are racking up. Their patience with managers is becoming shorter. They have made the decision to go a certain way with De Boer. They need to give him more time.

Palace were hanging on for dear life last year, have chopped and changed managers and to try and change their style of play is risky. very risky. When they are at their best the ultras in that corner are bouncing, the place is going crazy. If they lose that, they lose everything.
