De Boer has had long enough to put his imprint on the Crystal Palace team. They don't seem to have any pattern at all.

James Tarkowski is stripped by Christian Benteke, great harrying by the big man, and Tarkowski then fouls James McArthur. Yohan Cabaye range?

Nope. Duffed into the wall. But more good hustle from the men in black.

Palace chairman Steve Parish is sitting next to Mark Bright in the Turf Moor stands. They'll be upset by the scoreline but not too perturbed by the performance so far, you'd think. Palace have at least responded well to going behind.

Another brilliant ball across the box. A Frank Lampard would have scored that - a midfielder with the drive and bravery to get in on the end of crosses. That is what Burnley need.

    Burnley 1-0 Crystal Palace

Another good cross from Stephen Ward forces Jeff Schlupp into defensive action at the far post. Both sides look a threat every time they get the ball, as Joel Ward now has to clear from in front of Robbie Brady.

Palace working hard at the back.

Chance! Oh another great opportunity for Palace as James McArthur heads wide from Palace's sixth corner already.

    Burnley 1-0 Crystal Palace

It's a scruffy old game but it's far from boring! You can't accuse Palace of trying to over-play it today as they lump the ball into the mixer and watch Christian Benteke practice his own form of chaos. From a half-cleared corner Scott Dann has another good sight of goal but he can't adjust his feet and the chance is gone.

    Combative, compelling stuff.

    Burnley 1-0 Crystal Palace

Jeffrey Schlupp has been lively for Palace in the attacking third and he shows a great touch to bring down a lofted pass inside the area, but his shot is blocked. At the other end Chris Wood and Sam Vokes are causing all sorts of problems. Wood easily holds off his man and has a shot of his own blocked.

    Burnley 1-0 Crystal Palace

Since August 2016, only Harry Kane (31) and Billy Sharp (34) have scored more English league goals than Chris Wood (30).

This is his first ever Premier League start, for any club. Palace pose a threat too though as Jeff Schlupp wins a corner.

    Burnley 1-0 Crystal Palace

Chris Wood has taken to Premier League football with Burnley very well. A fine finish at Wembley and an equally good conversion here.

And that's almost two! Stephen Ward whips in a beauty of a cross from the left and Sam Vokes heads it wide.

Not the most glamorous game on paper, maybe. But a very exciting start at Turf Moor.

It is a diabolical mistake. The worst back-pass I have ever seen. An absolute howler.

It is a great finish. It is not as easy as it looks. But that will give him a lot of confidence.

  14. CLOSE!published at 6 mins

    Burnley 1-0 Crystal Palace

There are some goals where it is almost impossible to blame an under-fire manager. That is surely one.

But all credit to Palace who make a brilliant fightback. First Scott Dann has a shot cleared off the line before Christian Benteke heads narrowly wide. Great stuff.

Frank de Boer could do without that as his team gift Burnley an early goal!

What on earth are you thinking, Lee Chung-yong? The Palace winger is in the opposition half but heading back towards his own goal. There is no danger.

But he plays a blind backpass which goes straight to Chris Wood, Wayne Hennessey is outside his area and Wood clips first-time around him and home.

    Lovely finish! Abysmal defending.

    Burnley 0-0 Crystal Palace

It is definitely a back four for Palace, with both sides playing pretty direct in the early stages. Chris Wood and Sam Vokes may be the most 'old-school' front two the Premier League has seen in a while.

Crystal Palace and Frank de Boer have owned the pre-match discussion for this one, but let's not forget that the Clarets have already won at Chelsea and drew with Spurs at Wembley. What a start to the season for Sean Dyche and co.
