There is no natural width for Swansea. If the full-backs aren't able to get forward, one of the centre forwards has to drift wide either left or right to get that width. It does look like a team that has got a lot of central midfielders.

Still Swansea on the ball, still no real danger at either end of the pitch. A slow burner.

It's 70% of possession so far for Swansea but no efforts on goal thus far.

Paul Clement looks like he might have gone fishing before today's game; the Swansea head coach looks well prepared for this south Walian rain in his hooded coat and waterproof trousers.

And he will have been pleased by the impact of his new signing Renato Sanches, a player he worked with during his time as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant manager at Bayern Munich.

This isn't going to be a 'Renato Sanches' live text but all the good play is coming through him as the conduit. He almost finds Tammy Abraham inside the area but his pass is just about cut out. It's interesting also to see Sam Clucas playing as the deepest midfielder, almost a third centre-back at times. He started out as an out-and-out winger earlier in his career.

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

To be honest part of me was braced for Renato Sanches to barely figure this afternoon after such a build-up. But he's stood out massively so far. Newcastle have been very workmanlike indeed on the ball, typified as Mikel Merino gets the ball in space on the left and hesitantly punts the ball long and out of play.

Luke: Sanches at Swansea is still beyond my comprehension. A top 4 player. What a coup and shows the strength of the league!

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 8 mins

Renato Sanches is justifying the hype so far. A brilliant touch takes him away from Isaac Hayden who wipes him out. A bodycheck.

Renato Sanches is playing on the right of the diamond and Swansea will look to dominate the midfield and get the full-backs out wide to provide the width.

Well played! Renato Sanches has made a very bright start indeed. He may be expected to excite on the ball but so far he has made three or four strong tackles. A real strong character.

Mikel Merino makes a poor challenge to give away a free-kick in a dangerous area for Swansea, that move started with Renato Sanches nicking the ball for the Swans.

Paul Clement has been an inspired appointment by Swansea, he has got them organised, working hard, brought a sense of belief and a bit of passion back into this football club and the players.

I had completely forgotten about Shefki Kuqi playing for Newcastle. I always spelt his name wrong. Quki seems to make more sense.

Anyway, Swansea get us up and running.

The Liberty Stadium is in fine voice as the teams emerge from the tunnel. Newcastle, who play in black and white, have chosen an away kit of all black. A small palette.

All the talk among pundits and home supporters at the Liberty Stadium is about new Swansea signing Renato Sanches.

The 20-year-old midfielder has arrived on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich with a big reputation, but the move is not without its risks.

Sanches featured only sporadically for Bayern last season and his youth means he only made 24 league appearances for his first club Benfica before earning his 35m euro move to Germany.

He is certainly an exciting signing for Swansea, but the Welsh club are taking a calculated risk by pinning their hopes on a player who has yet to fulfill his considerable potential.

With the players Swansea have let go, that shows there is a huge amount of faith in Tammy Abraham and I'm pleased to see him today.

From what we have seen so far, there is definite potential there.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "We were resolute, that was the key. Palace were the better side today, we didn't get into our stride at all.

"They played well throughout the game. Sometimes it's just not your day. It's our worst performance of the season so far but the shape of the team, the belief in each other was on show.

"Chris Wood has made a good start and he scored a hat-trick for his country in midweek as well. He has a desire to prove himself in the Premier League, it was a great finish.

"Nick Pope made some good saves today, that will do him the world of good.

"Tom Heaton, it looks like a dislocated shoulder and if that is the case we are looking at months, not weeks."

Crystal Palace boss Frank De Boer: "No I cannot believe we lost, there is still frustration about the result but not about our performance.

"The goal we conceded was very disappointing, we have given a lot of sloppy goals away already and that was even worse.

"We showed what we really can do – and I already said I will sign directly for every game if we are going to create so many open chances against any team.

"We did not give much away, controlled the game and you have to reward yourself by scoring goals. That is what football is about.

"I am not disappointed about the performance and it gives me a lot of hope for the future – I said straight after after to the boys that if you do like this you will get your goals and your rewards.

"The only thing I can control is to work very hard with the boys and that is what I am going to do and hopefully for a long time.

"I saw the team fighting for each other and playing with more confidence and that is what I want.

"The only thing we didn’t do was score."
