Although it seems his decision to support the club happened by accident after liking a tweet because he thought it was referring to the animal.

According to his latest tweet on the topic though, he's now a fan for life. I guess you don't choose the club, the club chooses you.

After Wolves's impressive start, they'll certainly be a 'force' in the Championship this season.

Isaac Hayden side-foots a shot from range straight at Lukasz Fabianski, and that's half-time...

  5. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 44 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

Another appeal, from Swansea this time as Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles dives forwards to more or less lie on the ball which dipped right in front of him.

Lascelles did well actually, he chested it away.

  6. Simulation?published at 41 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

New rules this season mean that players who dive in English football will face bans. Is Mikel Merino likely to have a phone call or two to answer?

Under the new rules a panel will review footage each Monday looking for cases of simulation.

Any player unanimously found guilty of diving would be given a suspension.

If ever you wanted to liven up a boring game, chances and controversy are a good way to go.

Both teams have had opportunities to scorer, with goalkeepers Lukasz Fabianski and Rob Elliot making good saves.

And with replays showing Mikel Merino dived in an attempt to win Newcastle a penalty, the Liberty Stadium is a fair bit livelier than it was 10 minutes ago.

  8. 'Over-egged it'published at 16:41 British Summer Time 10 September 2017

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

That is easier to get it inside the post than outside, Mawson does not really need to direct it but he has tried to find the corner and over-egged it.

I think he is a really good ball-playing defender, but also good defensively as well.

  9. CLOSE!published at 39 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

And the game continues to find another gear as now Alfie Mawson goes so close to the opener! He should score. He rises high to meet a corner, wins the header easily - but puts it wide.

  10. 'Blatant gamesmanship'published at 16:38 British Summer Time 10 September 2017

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester and Portsmouth striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was the right decision to not give the penalty. Merino didn't have to go down and I don't understand why he did.

To me that is more a three-match ban than yesterday (Liverpool's Sadio Mane being sent off against Manchester City). To me that is blatant gamesmanship from Merino.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 37 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

A much better game in the last few minutes. Newcastle threaten again on the counter before Martin Olsson brings it clear. Kyle Naughton is able to put a cross in which is dealt with and Jordan Ayew then stings the palms of Rob Elliot from 25 yards!

  12. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 36 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle have a head of steam going and are sure they should have a penalty as Mikel Merino goes between Martin Olsson and Alfie Mawson and goes down - nothing given!

Referee Michael Jones has got that absolutely right - it looks like a real dive from Merino.

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester and Portsmouth striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a wonderful save. All that work you do, doing your saves in training that is when it comes to fruition. A great ball in from Matt Ritchie, a wonderful header from Joselu and a fantastic save.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 34 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

Poor ball in midfield allows Newcastle to mount a counter attack, Jacob Murphy wins a corner, and what a save that is!

Matt Ritchie whips in a cross from the left, Joselu meets it with a flicked header and Lukasz Fabianski makes a sensational one-handed save!

That was outstanding. Joselu must have been sure that was a goal.

  15. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

Renato Sanches was very lively in the opening minutes but has faded already and doesn't look the sharpest as the half wears on. Joselu tries his arm from a long way out and fires over the top for Newcastle.

It's been a slow half hour.

    Postpublished at 29 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

Renato Sanches and Mikel Merino are both down in need of treatment after a clash in midfield, but they are both able to continue after some treatment.

The Swans send Wilfried Bony out to warm up and he gets a great reception.

  18. Sleepy Sundaypublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 10 September 2017

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at the Liberty Stadium

So far, you could say this game is putting the 'Sunday' into 'Super Sunday'.

Neither side has played with much fluency yet, with the congested midfield and lack of width making for a tight encounter and a rather soporific atmosphere.

  19. CLOSE!published at 27 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

We've had more thrilling Sundays, I think it's fair to say. There's the first grumble of frustration from the stands as Renato Sanches miscues a diagonal pass.

And Newcastle have the first real chance of the game! Javier Manquillo hits a long, direct ball forwards, Federico Fernandez makes a hash of dealing with it and Jacob Murphy has the chance - lashes over the top.

It was a tough one, dropping over his shoulder.

  20. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Swansea 0-0 Newcastle

Swansea do get the ball wide, Kyle Naughton swivels on to his left foot and stands up a cross to the back post where the giant figure of Tammy Abraham is poised - but referee Michael Jones pings him for pulling back Javier Manquillo.
