It's no fluke that Huddersfield have started well.

The Terriers play a high pressing game, closing down their opponents in their own half to regain possession quickly.

A Premier League-high 36.3% of their passes this season have been in the attacking third.

Andy Carroll's return is a definite boost for West Ham but there's not much he can do if the Hammers keep conceding goals like they have.

Joe Hart has let in 10 goals so far this season and has now failed to keep a clean sheet in his last 22 league appearances - a run stretching back to 8 January.

The England goalkeeper has made fewer Premier League saves (nine) than goals conceded (10) so far this season.

  3. 'Palace chairman knows De Boer appointment wasn't right move'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 11 September 2017

    Ian Wright
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I’m devastated for him that he’s got the sack so soon. There’ll be outrage because it’s only been four games. But that’s the way it is in the Premier League. Claudio Ranieri got sacked seven months after winning the Premier League. Jose Mourinho – one of the league’s greatest managers – was sacked after Chelsea’s players downed tools.

In Steve Parish’s defence, as much as people will give him stick, he realised it wasn’t the right move [to hire De Boer]. He’s acted quickly. We don’t know what’s gone on behind the scenes. He’ll do it in the best interests of the club.

We’re hearing it’s going to be Roy Hodgson with Ray Lewington. You hope that’s the right decision. It’s a different Palace now, they’re paying £100,000 a week – they have to stay in this league. Parish is very knowledge about what he wants for the club.

  4. 'Palace looked at replacement two weeks ago'published at 19:18 British Summer Time 11 September 2017

    David Ornstein
    BBC Sport

Crystal Palace were already considering replacing manager Frank de Boer two weeks before he was eventually sacked.

De Boer met with Palace chairman Steve Parish and sporting director Dougie Freedman on Monday, 28 August. Parish and Freedman left that meeting very underwhelmed and with no confidence that the Dutchman was the right man to turn Palace's fortunes around.

They made contact with Roy Hodgson - the favourite to take over at Selhurst Park - and other potential replacements about their availability that week - but the club's focus turned to player recruitment at the end of the transfer window.

West Ham make five changes from the side who lost 3-0 to Newcastle, most notably Andy Carroll making his first appearance of the season following a thigh injury.

Captain Winston Reid also returns from a calf injury. Jose Fonte, Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang also come in. Andre Ayew - among the subs, Edimilson Fernandes, Declan Rice, Angelo Ogbonna and Mark Noble drop out of the XI.

Huddersfield are unchanged from their goalless draw with Southampton. Recent signings Abdelhamid Sabiri and Florent Hadergjonaj are both in the matchday squad for the first time - albeit on the bench.

Slaven Bilic will be hoping his chairmen give him a little longer than Steve Parish gave Frank de Boer.

Like Palace, West Ham have lost their first three league matches but conceded four more goals in the process. Tonight however, is the clubs first home game of the season. I’m told its going to be a sell-out. 57,000 will be here with 3,000 travelling down from Huddersfield.

Bilic was in fine form on Friday in his pre match press conference, although saying chairman, David Sullivan ‘likes to talk’ did raise eyebrows among the press pack.

There is a feeling here that this game is make or break for the West Ham boss. Fully expecting the home fans to get behind the manager but if they don’t score after 40 minutes or so the atmosphere could turn nasty.

  8. De Boer sacking 'stinks'published at 19:07 British Summer Time 11 September 2017

West Ham v Huddersfield (20:00 BST)

    Chris Sutton
    Ex-Chelsea striker

It is no shock that Frank de Boer has been sacked by Crystal Palace after all the speculation over his future - but it stinks the way the things have unfolded.

As I said on Sunday night, if Palace's game against Burnley really was a chance for De Boer to prove himself,, external then he did that. So it is utterly ridiculous to ditch him now.

Yes, Palace lost, and are still without a point and a goal in the Premier League this season, but to sack him after the way they played showed he had no chance of keeping his job anyway.

    It all seems very underhand.

So I'm curious to hear from West Ham fans, what are your feelings about Slaven Bilic? Is tonight a must-win game for him?

And Huddersfield fans - I think I already know the answer to this one - but chairman Dean Hoyle has said David Wagner will not be sacked this season even if, despite the excellent start, they go on to finish bottom. Agree with such a stance?

Slaven Bilic's task perhaps hasn't been made easier by recent comments from the club's owners.

David Sullivan released a statement soon after the transfer window closed saying Bilic had turned down deals for Grzegorz Krychowiak and Renato Sanches, who then joined West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City respectively.

    Bilic later disputed Sullivan's comments.

Apparently no mention of Slaven Bilic in David Sullivan's column in the match programme. A bad sign, or reading too much into things?

Quite an impressive stat concerning Huddersfield. From my glance at the tables, they are the only side in the English and Scottish football leagues yet to concede a goal this season.

Terriers keeper Jonas Lossl could become only the fourth goalkeeper in Premier League history to keep a clean sheet in each of his first four appearances in the competition, after Pepe Reina, Alex Manninger and Anders Lindegaard.

Contrast the shenanigans at Crystal Palace and West Ham with what is going on at Huddersfield.

The Terriers have taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, winning two and drawing one of their first three games to sit sixth in table on seven points.

That form earned David Wagner the first Premier League Manager of the Month award. There is arguably no Premier League manager with stronger job security than the German.

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Match of the Day commentator

A month after Britain's men struck World Championships relay gold at the London Stadium, West Ham finally pick up the baton and get out of the starting blocks for their home campaign.

They desperately need to rescue Slaven Bilic's 49th birthday by avoiding a fourth consecutive defeat in a shambolic start. Three of the last four teams to open that way have finished bottom.

Huddersfield have been comparatively excellent. They look to become the first promoted side to keep a clean sheet in its first four Premier League matches.

Food for thought? Only twice before have they won their opening two top-flight away games. Both times they won the title!

    Hello!

It may be the start of a working week (boo!) but what a week for football fans because there are games EVERY single night.

The Champions League returns on Tuesday and Wednesday before Europa League takes centre stage on Thursday and then Bournemouth and Brighton see in the weekend on Friday night.

But we start things off at the London Stadium as West Ham play at home for the first time this season in a game that is already a massive one for the Hammers and Bilic.

Who'd be a football manager, eh?

Just as Frank de Boer had probably got his Crystal Palace office the way he likes it, he was gone. Four defeats in four games proving enough for the club's hierarchy to lose patience.

Now the knives are sharpening for Slaven Bilic.

The West Ham boss turns 49 today but probably won't be in the mood for celebrating. At least, not just yet.

The Hammers are bottom of the table, without a win from three games and tonight face in-form Huddersfield.

Another defeat and Bilic could be in danger of following De Boer out of the Premier League exit door...
