• Bournemouth continued their unbeaten league run against Brighton, winning 2-1 to extend that run to seven matches (W4 D3).
• Jermain Defoe scored his first goal for Bournemouth since May 2001 (5977 days ago), when he was playing alongside Eddie Howe for the Cherries away at Reading.
• Defoe has now scored against 36 different Premier League teams – only three players have scored against more; Frank Lampard (39), Andrew Cole (38) and Alan Shearer (37).
• Defoe has scored in 17 different Premier League seasons, with only three players scoring in more – Frank Lampard (18), Paul Scholes (19) and Ryan Giggs (21).
• Andrew Surman ended a run of 68 Premier League games without a goal, scoring his first since he found the net in Norwich’s 6-1 defeat to Manchester City in April 2012.
• Jordon Ibe provided assists for both of Bournemouth’s goals – before tonight, he hadn’t been involved in a single goal in his previous 28 Premier League appearances for the Cherries.
• Ibe is the first Bournemouth player to provide two assists in a single Premier League game.
• Brighton were the first Premier League team in 2017 to score the first goal of the game in the second half of a match and go on to lose the game – the last before them to do this were Middlesbrough at Manchester United on New Years Eve 2016.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Match of the Day: "A lot of emotions, relief is probably the biggest one. We have had a tough run of fixtures and today was really important.

What difference did Jordon Ibe make?: "Huge difference, the ability to beat people and be positive with the ball. The two assists were excellent, really pleased for him."

On Jermain Defoe: "If you get him the chances, we haven't done that this season, we have struggled to get the ball into the dangerous areas but when you do you have a chance with his finishing ability and he showed that."

On Brighton: "They played deep, they were compact and we knew it would be difficult. The two goals have given everyone a confidence lift."

Brighton boss Chris Hughton, speaking to Match of the Day: "Incredibly disappointed. They have a lot of quality and move the ball well but we handled it well for a lot of the game. It was two poor goals we conceded. We never looked like conceding before then.

"I thought it was a really good period for us just before we scored. Up until then, they had a lot of possession but I felt we were always in the game."

On Jordon Ibe: "That is the sort of quality they can bring on. They are a team playing at home so conceding brings them out a bit more, they have to go for it.

"It is a tough one today because I felt we were well in the game. We had some really good phases, phases where we were really comfortable. We need to make sure in the future that once we take the lead we are resilient enough to hold onto it."

Brighton defender Liam Rosenior to Sky Sports: "It was a very similar away performance to what we had in the Championship. We were 1-0 up and in control and I think this is a lesson for us. You can't switch off, you can't give away cheap goals.

"We are very solid away from home, we know we will get chances on the break. Two bits of quality from them and they have won the game.

"Maybe we felt too comfortable and took our foot off the gas, you can't do that in the Premier League."

Give credit to the Bournemouth players and manager, Eddie Howe would have been very disappointed with what he saw in the first half.

He let them come out in the second half and then decided to make a change. And Jordon Ibe made the difference – with two assists. You can sense the sense of relief around this stadium and on the players’ faces with the celebrations. They’ll feel they can kick on now. It shows good togetherness that they have come through this.

To be fair to Eddie Howe, he never veers away from how they play football. The reason it hasn't been going great is because individually they haven't been performing. But winning and scoring goals breeds confidence. There'll be smiles on faces at training now and looking forward to their next games.

I thought Brighton were cruising for 65 minutes. Chris Hughton will be disappointed.

Brighton have sent defender Shane Duffy up top as they desperately try to snatch an equaliser.

Eddie Howe bolsters his midfield as Joshua King is withdrawn and Dan Gosling sent on.

Not long left for Bournemouth to hold out for a much-needed win.

Ooh, penalty? Joshua King falls inside the area after a challenge. The referee blows for a foul but deems the initial challenge to have happened outside the area. Jordon Ibe steps up to bend the free-kick just wide of the goal.

Our friends at Opta have informed us that Watford, Sheffield United and Leeds are the three clubs.

A bit of hesitation from Simon Francis and Asmir Begovic as a deflected ball bounces towards the Bournemouth box. Jose Izquierdo tries to capitalise on the miscommunication but Begovic takes charge of the situation to gather the ball before the Brighton substitute gets to it.

A harsh reminder of life in the Premier League for Brighton - two moments of quality have turned this game on its head.

Brighton are starting to look a little leggy and suddenly Bournemouth are finding more areas to run into.

The Seagulls may need something special to rescue a point from this one.
