Brighton's plan is spot on so far, they have kept their shape and they do not look like they will be broken down.

But boss Chris Hughton will look at it later and see they need to take a few more risks.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Brighton

Whether or not this is encouraging for Brighton fans is up for debate but the Seagulls are looking a match for Bournemouth.

Their potential undoing, though, could be mistakes at the back as Shane Duffy once again loses possession but the hosts can't make it count.

Chris Hughton has been prowling the edge of his technical area since kick-off, whistling to catch his players' attention and barking instructions. When they almost gifted Joshua King a goal he turned away in disgust

Good pace and strength from Tomer Hemed as he holds off Simon Francis as he charges down the left but, with no support, the ball eventually ends up back to Asmir Begovic.

Twenty five minutes in and just one shot on goal so far, Charlie Daniels' effort a few minutes ago for Bournemouth.

Mat VP: This is a Premier League game right? At least we are getting the worst game over with early!

Thomashollern: How refreshing to see two teams actually wanting to play attacking football. No goals yet but hopefully they will come soon

Paul Collins: Seen enough of both Bournemouth and Brighton to know they're both rubbish and in for long hard seasons. Poor quality.

Slightly differing takes on this game...

    Bournemouth 0-0 Brighton

A promising Brighton attack breaks down as Solly March is caught in possession. Charlie Daniels then breaks quickly and, not content with scoring one goal of the season contender, goes for an audacious effort from distance. The ball swirls through the air but Mat Ryan makes the save.

Better from Bournemouth as Ryan Fraser spots a gap in the Brighton defence and plays a long pass to Charlie Daniels, who finds Marc Pugh inside the area with a first time pass. Pugh takes a tough to open up a gap but doesn't connect well with the ball and his shot flies comfortably wide.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Brighton

Bournemouth are trying to stretch the Brighton defence by passing the ball from left to right and back again just inside the Seagulls half, but it's not creating any gaps as yet.

    Bournemouth have started reasonably well.

But there is a lack of quality into the box from good areas and we have not spoken about Joshua King and Jermain Defoe. They have had little to feed off.

Eddie Howe needs to sort that out.

A chance for Bournemouth as Joshua King is on Shane Duffy's misplaced pass in a flash and has a pop from just outside the area but Lewis Dunk digs out his team-mate with a block.

Craig Pawson is the referee today. He's taken charge of four Bournemouth games in the Premier League before with the Cherries drawing one and losing three of them.

At the other end, Harry Arter attempts an ambitious effort from 30 yards which sails high and wide of the goal.

Ten minutes in and Bournemouth are bossing possession but neither goalkeeper has been tested yet.

Anthony Knockaert and Pascal Gross are already showing signs of linking up well together for Brighton and the two combine before the former charges goalwards and has a go from distance but his low shot is just wide.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Brighton

Marc Pugh loses the ball and now Brighton have the chance to build something.

Pascal Gross thinks about getting a cross in from the right but there's not many yellow shirts to aim for so plays it back to the defence before Markus Suttner over hits his pass for Tomer Hemed.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Brighton

The Brighton fans are absolutely loving life on the road in the Premier League. They are making a right old din in the away end.

There's not much for them to shout about on the pitch yet, with Bournemouth in possession. The Cherries will be desperate for an early goal.

  16. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 Brighton

Positive start by the hosts as Charlie Daniels, scorer of Bournemouth's only league goal of the season so far (and what a goal it was too), finds a bit of space down the left and sends in a low cross. There's a couple of Bournemouth players there but it is Brighton who get to the ball first and clear.

There's some fancy floodlight flashing going on at the Vitality Stadium as a bit of RnB blasts out of the speakers. Like a Friday night out on the town at the moment.

The atmosphere is building, though, as the players stroll out before kick-off.

    John Roder
    Match of the Day commentator

Brighton beat West Bromwich Albion last Saturday to move onto four points, while Bournemouth have gone down to four defeats out of four.

Eddie Howe has described three of the Cherries' four league performances as unacceptable, although it has to be remembered that Manchester City and Arsenal have been two of their opponents.

This is the first meeting between these two coastal clubs since April 2015, but there won't be a long wait until the next match as they face each other again in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

There's no doubt though that this Friday is, by a considerable margin, the more important of the two.
