A better start from Liverpool, with Philippe Coutinho involved more and more. His shot is deflected into the side-netting for a corner. Ashley Young then concedes a free-kick wide on the left. Can anyone find a good delivery?

Phil Jones plays a really slack ball and Emre Can picks up the pieces, Liverpool attack down their left but when the ball reaches Roberto Firmino on the fringe of the six-yard box his effort is well charged down - and he was flagged offside as well.

And away we go.

No goalkeeper has made more saves from big chances in the Premier League this season than David de Gea (5).

Manchester United have been formidable rather than fluent so far but with Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford among their subs that could change if needs be.

That half of football was exactly what we all expected. Some were saying United would be gung-ho and really go for it today. Never going to happen.

Jose Mourinho will know that a point here will be good and, if they nick a goal and take all three points, then so much the better.

Both sides had one good chance in that first half, but David de Gea produced a superb save to deny Joel Matip and Romelu Lukaku could only produce an average shot to not beat Simon Mignolet.

There's no blood, no cut on Lovren, and I've just seen a replay of the incident when Lukaku clips him. There is nothing at all in that. Lovren's reaction, to roll over at least 10 times holding on to his face... well, come on man. That's poor.

Peter Schmeichel, the man widely accepted as Manchester United's greatest ever goalkeeper, is at Anfield this afternoon working for international TV.

Such is David de Gea's form over the past few years there must be some serious debate about whether he has eclipsed the great Dane.

De Gea's problem, as with comparisons with Edwin van der Sar, is that he has not won a Champions League during his time at Old Trafford.

Liverpool have had four shots on target so far, United just the one.

But both goalkeepers have made huge contributions.

Hats off so far to De Gea and Mignolet.

Manchester United's best chance! It opens up as Romelu Lukaku plays a one-two with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the ball comes back to the Belgian about 15 yards out but his shot is straight at Simon Mignolet. Should do better?

Dejan Lovren is then left in a heap after a tackle with the big striker, he is caught in the face by Lukaku's foot but that looked entirely accidental.

Liverpool are lacking an out-and-out centre-forward. There are times when Firmino and Coutinho - who are Liverpool's most dangerous players - have looked up to see only one man in the United box.

Philippe Coutinho weaves past a few challenges but there's always another man in place.
