  1. Marseille striker huntpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    John Bennett
    BBC World Service

It would take all day to list the number of strikers that Marseille have been linked with this summer. New owners came in last summer with what they called the “Champions Project” to restore the club to former glories but they’ve been unable to tempt a number 9 to the club in this window.

Names mentioned earlier this month included Olivier Giroud and Moussa Dembele but they fell by the wayside. Today former Fulham striker Konstantinos Mitroglou (now at Benfica) and Leicester City striker Islam Slimani are being mentioned. Unlike Mahrez, Slimani flew to Zambia this morning with the Algeria national team.

  4. Delph to Stoke still on?published at 17:16 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Matt Sandoz
Stoke City commentator, BBC Radio Stoke

Despite the Stoke City chairman’s comments in the last hour, there could yet be a late twist! Manager Mark Hughes hasn’t totally given up on signing Fabian Delph from Manchester City.

Peter Coates had said he wasn't expecting any more deals today.

  5. DONE DEALSpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

Some incomings and outgoings in the EFL.

Zak Jules has joined Chesterfield on loan from Shrewsbury, while Hiram Boateng has become Exeter's fourth signing of the day from Crystal Palace.

Accrington Stanley have completed the loan signing of Derby defender Farrend Rawson while Forest Green have signed Liverpool forward Toni Gomes on a season-long loan deal.

  6. Very successful window for Citypublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Manchester City

Ric Turner, from Manchester City fan website Blue Moon:

Regardless of whether or not the club manage to secure a deal for Alexis Sanchez before the Thursday deadline, it has been a very successful window for City.

Two of the main problem areas in the squad, goalkeeper and full-back, have been addressed by the signings of Ederson, Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy, and Danilo.

Securing the services of the mercurial Bernardo Silva for £43m looked a bargain at the time, and even more so in the light of recent deals.

There is still a slight imbalance to the squad, but it is looking in much better shape than last season. There has been a significant upgrade in quality, with much "dead wood" being moved on, and the average age has come down considerably.

This was always likely to be an exceptionally busy window for the club, with a major overhaul needed for an ageing team. I suspect we won't see activity on this level moving forward. In future there will be a greater emphasis on quality rather than quantity, with one-two premium signings becoming the norm.

Sanchez would be the icing on the cake, of course, and could be the difference in the title race. Another centre half is needed too, although the possible signing of Jonny Evans has polarised fans.

The prospective £30m fee seems excessive given his age, although he ticks certain other boxes (home grown, left sided, comfortable on the ball and so on). With Leicester and Arsenal also interested this could go to the wire, although I suspect many Blues wouldn't be too disappointed if a deal didn't materialise, and Eliaquim Mangala was given another opportunity.

  10. Arsenal alone hold the key to Alexis Sanchez dealpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Alexis Sanchez may be the subject of a £60m bid from Manchester City - but he also has quite an important game for Chile this evening.

Their World Cup qualifier against Paraguay is due to begin at 23:30BST, 30 minutes after the deadline has closed.

It raises the obvious question about how Sanchez could have a medical?

I have been given no answer to that, other that being told if Arsenal accept the offer, the deal will be done.

  13. All quiet on the Derby frontpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Owen Bradley
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

As expected, it’s been quiet at Derby so far. Youngsters Timi Max Elsnik and Kellan Gordon have joined Swindon on-loan, but that’s been it for the Rams. I wouldn’t rule out a couple of dominoes falling later in the day though.

It’s a bit more interesting at Burton Albion. The Brewers are definitely chasing a couple of players, including Sheffield United defender John Brayford. If Nigel Clough gets his man, it would be the fourth time he’s signed him.

  14. DONE DEAL - SANCHO LEAVES MAN CITYpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Borussia Dortmund have signed Manchester City youngster Jadon Sancho.

The highly-rated England youth international wanted to leave City and had stopped training.

City gave him permission to speak to Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid only - no British clubs.

  16. Comley on Colchester movepublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

Colchester United have signed midfielder Brandon Comley on loan from QPR until January.

He told BBC Essex: “I had a decent spell with Grimsby last season and remember coming on as substitute against Colchester. I had a conversation with the gaffer at QPR and he said it’d be good for me to get out on loan again as maybe I’m not quite ready to be the man to help them get to the Premier League yet”

BBC Essex Sports Producer Glenn Speller: “Comley fits perfectly into the Colchester philosophy of young players with League experience. I’m expecting at least two more new faces through the door there before the day is done."

  17. Stoke done for the day?published at 16:29 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Matt Sandoz
Stoke City commentator, BBC Radio Stoke

I’ve just spoken to the Stoke City chairman Peter Coates, who tells me he isn’t expecting any more signings today. The one they were focusing on was Fabian Delph from Manchester City, but that hasn’t materialised.

  19. Sakho's eventful deadline daypublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Frank Keogh
    BBC Sport

Talks over Diafra Sakho's future were delayed as the West Ham striker went to Chelmsford races on deadline day where his agent's horse won.

Sakho reportedly kept a low profile in the course car park as the 9-2 shot Siege Of Boston, owned by Mark McKay, won the 3.20.

The Senegal striker is seeking a move away from West Ham and has been linked with a transfer to French club Rennes, although the Hammers have said he is not for sale.

After watching his horse win in a photo finish, McKay said: "Now it's time to get back to work. There are things to be sorted out so it's back to the football now.

"I hope all the West Ham fans backed the horse."

The Happy Hammer was a non-runner in the race.
