    Peterborough United chairman/owner Darragh MacAnthony:

I was up at 9am working on normal business, but just had a one-hour phone conversation with Barry Fry [director of football] following up on the initial enquiries we had yesterday, which started with couple agents phoning us and saying, ‘would you take X amount if a club came in’. The clubs, before showing their hand, want agents to gauge where we are re. valuations. Barry bats them away, as he has been instructed by me on the players we have no interest in doing business on and has relayed the price I would allow the player in question to move for if it was reached (but it won’t be).

I am more interested in the call myself and the gaffer had Barry make regarding a young player that caught our eye and we feel might be another good addition now or even in January. We aren’t ready to pounce but are gauging temperature of the club and their price expectation. If it was doable, we would maybe try and land him now. But Barry informs me there is no chance at the moment so we respect that club’s decision and will revisit in January or next summer. No massive urgency to get it done anyhow.

I am currently at home at my house in Surrey working from my home office. I am about to pop out to the barbers but will have phone on.

He's set for a medical today as he closes in on a return to South Wales after leaving the club for the Etihad in January 2015.

Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about the acquisition of Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain from Arsenal.

“I am really, really happy we have got Alex signed," he told Liverpool's website. "Since the last game I have been waiting and hoping we could make this transfer - and when I got the news he was ours it was fantastic.

“I remember the first time I saw him play live - it was at Dortmund in 2014 and he came on as a sub that day and made a big impact. He stood out immediately because of his pace and skills and his attitude in such a big game for a young player."

It's going to be a long day for more reasons than one for Dwight Gayle.

The striker has been linked with a deadline day move away from Newcastle and he was at the club early this morning, not to finalise his future, but to attend training. Fair enough you might think, except he was FOUR hours early., external

Apparently Gayle didn't get the email that training was in the afternoon, not the morning.

  13. Wells deal suits all partiespublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Huddersfield Town

James A. Chisem, general secretary of Huddersfield Town Supporters' Association:

The Nahki Wells to Burnley transfer is one of those rare deals that seemingly benefits everybody. Huddersfield cash in on a fourth-choice striker in the last year of his contract, Sean Dyche gets a different kind of forward to the ones he already has, and the player himself earns a better wage and a chance to play regularly in the Premier League, even if it’s most likely from the bench. Oh, and Bradford City receive a hefty sell on fee, some of which I imagine they’ll invest in a much-needed defender or two.

  14. Lots of catching up to dopublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Huddersfield Town

James A. Chisem, general secretary of Huddersfield Town Supporters' Association:

When compared with the likes of Brighton and Newcastle, not to mention the rest of the Premier League, I think it’s fair to say that Huddersfield have had a lot of catching up to do.

And most of that catching up has been focussed on three key issues.

Before anything else, David Wagner was determined to keep the spine of last season’s team intact, and although he failed to tempt Izzy Brown and Danny Ward back to the John Smith’s Stadium, he’s largely succeeded. Securing Aaron Mooy on a permanent deal was a real statement of intent, especially since the hardworking Aussie is the axis upon which Wagner’s 4-2-3-1 system revolves. Signing Elias Kachunga for £1.17 million was another coup, as was the extension of Kasey Palmer’s loan.

Squad depth was also a concern, so the addition of Jonas Lössl, Rob Green, Zanka, Scott Malone, Florent Hadergjonaj, Danny Williams, and Abdelhamid Sabiri for the combined sum of £7 million shows that Dean Hoyle and Wagner still know a bargain when they see one. More significantly, these players will provide both cover and competition, which is vital if our pressing game is to be as effective in May as it is in September.

That just leaves the thorny issue of goals. It’s no secret that we won promotion with a negative goal difference, so if we’re going to stay up, we’re going to need to be far more clinical.

Judging from pre-season and the first few games, Beninese striker Steven Mounie is just that—a proper centre-forward who’s fast, strong, and good in the air. Laurent Depoitre, meanwhile, will no doubt prove to be an able deputy, and Tom Ince looks like he’ll be a handful, whether playing out wide or as a number ten.

In terms of outgoings, it’s a shame to see Nahki Wells and Harry Bunn leave, but they were always going to struggle to get in the team with the quality we’ve added up-front.

All in all, then, I think we’ve had a very good transfer window. If I was being greedy, I’d say that we should add another centre-back and attacking midfielder, especially if we want to switch to a 3-4-3 against teams such as Chelsea. Only if I was being greedy, mind.

  16. Thrifty Town reap the rewardspublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Huddersfield Town

James A. Chisem, general secretary of Huddersfield Town Supporters' Association:

It didn’t take long for somebody to point at the ArsenalFanTV camera and yell “even Huddersfield have spent more than us!”

And although that’s not strictly true - there’s a difference between expenditure and net-expenditure - I can understand why certain people are slightly bemused, or in this case, incensed, when they see that a newly promoted club have spent £40m on transfer fees.

But it’s important to put this figure in context, and I’m not just referring to the bull market that we currently find ourselves in. Indeed, before this summer, our record signing was Christopher Schindler, who cost £1.8 million, while the rest of our promotion winning side consisted mostly of free transfers and loanees. This thrifty approach to the business of football was also reflected by our wage budget, which, at roughly £10 million per year, was one of the lowest in the Championship.

Oldham Athletic have a visitor today. This is the instagram post of Abdallah Lensagam, he's a Fifa registered agent and founder of Dubai-based agency Sport 2JLT.

Chairman Simon Corney has alluded to new investment in the club and Lemsagam certainly could fall into that category but there's also rumours that there could be players on their way in too.

Lemsagam had a meeting with manager John Sheridan this morning before his weekly pre-match press conference, the contents of that meeting haven't been disclosed.

Oldham fans will be desperate for some good news after an exceptionally tough start to the season.

  20. Burnley monitoring Lennon situationpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

There is a possibility Burnley will sign Aaron Lennon from Everton today. The idea was blocked by Everton on Tuesday, but there is a chance it could yet happen before the deadline.

It is a tricky one, as I understand clubs have been told Lennon is available all summer but then he features in Everton's last two games and Burnley are told he's unavailable. One to watch. He remains on Burnley's deadline day hit list should Everton's stance change.
