David Thackeray: Boufal - goal of the season!

Javel Bleach: BRILLIANT Southampton goal! Love how WBA players wiped themselves out!

Anthony Mape: Inspired substitution, all the talk about Austin coming on, but Boufal!! What a goal.

GOAL - Southampton 1-0 West Brompublished at 86 mins

    Sofiane Boufal

We have lift off! What a goal! From his own half Sofiane Boufal has just scored one of the goals of the season.

He picks the ball up midway through his own territory, beats five West Brom defenders and from the edge of the penalty slots into the bottom corner.

    A quite brilliant goal.

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Southampton eventually signed a replacement in Manolo Gabbiadini didn't they? The problem is one week he's brilliant, the next not so much.

Today he hasn't looked the clinical two-goal striker of last week. There's still time. Six minutes to go.

Martin: Jesus, what do Southampton need to do to score!

Graham Green: Little doubt which game will be last on MOTD tonight. Southampton-West Brom even worse than Newcastle-Palace!

Paul Court: Saints had the opportunity to sign a goalscorer to replace Pelle but bought two midfielders instead, difficult to understand.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 82 mins

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Virgil van Dijk almost gets a sight at goal from the resulting free-kick but once again the ball is whacked clear in no nonsense style.

Nathan Redmond then goes for a strike from distance but doesn't get enough bend on the ball and it stays wide of the left post.

That allows Southampton to make their final two changes. Charlie Austin and Sofiane Boufal on for Shane Long and Dusan Tadic.

Soft. Gareth McAuley comes through the back of Dusan Tadic and gives away a free-kick 30 yards out.

It's safe to say Tony Pulis didn't agree with that. He wheels away in his technical area, as as if looking for someone to yell at.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 78 mins

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

A third and final West Brom change. Nacer Chadli off, Matt Phillips on. That's pretty much like for like.

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Nacer Chadli has a shot tipped over by Fraser Forster but here come Southampton again. Redmond crosses from the left wing and Saints forward Dusan Tadic and West Brom defender Gareth McAuley both go for the header. Only one winner there.

McAuley heads clear. This match has definitely livened up.

I'm a West Brom supporter and I get pretty fed up with the "Tony Pulis - he will keep you in the league" attitude. But at what price? Absolutely horrible, boring and uninteresting football.

"Finish!?"! No! "Penalty?!" No! The Southampton fans want one of the two but end with nothing.

Somehow a cross from the left finds it way all the way through to Dusan Tadic in space on the right side of the box. He controls and tries to chip over the on rushing Ben Foster but the goalkeeper blocks.

Tadic then goes down screaming for a spot kick as he and Foster scramble for the loose ball but the referee rightly waves away the appeals.

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

We are going to see a Southampton change and it is indeed Nathan Redmond coming on. He's replacing holding midfielder Oriol Romeu in an attacking move.

Manolo Gabbiadini has just had another tame Southampton shot saved. Unsurprisingly the home fans are getting restless. You'd think they would be used to this by now!

As cynical as you get. A yellow card all day long.

West Brom's Nacer Chadli is the first man in the book for a trip on Dusan Tadic.

I make it 65% possession for Southampton but I get your drift, Billy.

Saints boss Maurcio Pellegrino is deep in conversation with his coaching staff. Is a change coming up?

Who could Southampton look to for a goal? Charlie Austin? Sofiane Boufal? Nathan Redmond?

    Jeeez.

Another heart in mouth moment for Fraser Forster in the Southampton goal.

A West Brom free-kick ends with the ball being nodded high into the air for what looks like a regulation catch for the England goalkeeper.

Forster comes out, jumps up but let's the ball squirm out of his gloves. He scrambles around on the turf to try and get it back under control but the ball is eventually hoofed away.

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

    What. A. Chance.

Jay Rodriguez beats the offside trap. He's clean through on goal for West Brom against his former club. He lets the ball drop over his shoulder and swings a right boot but the connection is awful.

His shot ends up closer to the corner flag than the goal.

That's comfortably the best chance West Brom have created and it's wasted. "Waheeeeey" shout the home fans.

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

There are two more touches in the Southampton box for West Brom. The first is a tame header from Kieran Gibbs and the next comes after an awful flap at a cross from Saints stopper Fraser Forster.

Luckily for him he gets away with it but that was shaky. Forster was also questioned for Newcastle's goals last week at St Mary's.

It has been pretty defensive from Pulis' side. They've still had just the one touch in the Southampton box.

Still, if they can nick a goal and keep a clean sheet he'll call it the perfect away performance, right?

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 55 mins

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

    Hmmmm. Is this an injury?

Gareth Barry is replaced less than 10 minutes into the second half by Gareth McAuley.

Barry jogs off but then has a grimace on his face as he chats to Tony Pulis. WBA have already lost Jonny Evans to injury today remember.
