    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

The Southamtpon corner count rises further as Manolo Gabbiadini's shot is blocked behind. The set-piece is comfortably dealt with but as the ball is recycled Shane Long gets a shot on goal from outside the box.

Sadly for him it goes straight down the throat of Ben Foster.

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

This is better from Southampton. West Brom haven't made it out of their own half in this second period.

Cedric Soares whips in a cross from the right flank, it finds the head of Manolo Gabbiadini but his header goes just over.

Promising start to the second 45.

Again it's Southampton on the front foot early on.

They win a throw-in near the left corner flag and Allan Nyom then lackadaisically looks to run the ball out of ball during the following attack.

Dusan Tadic nips in and for a second the home fans get excited as the midfielder rushes along the byeline but the cross fails to pick out a teammate.

What was that 90s classic from D:Ream? Things can only get better?

If anyone can think of a song that better sums up that half then fire away.

  7. Blunt Baggiespublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 21 October 2017

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Southampton have been well on top, a fact underlined by the fact West Brom have had one touch in the Saints' area (right).

The home side have also forced seven corners in the opening 45 minutes.

West Brom have completed just 67% of their passes compared to 85% by the home side. Somehow the away side need to construct some more attacks if they are to threaten.

Graham Green: Nothing in this half has changed my view that Southampton will be deep in the middle of a relegation battle by Christmas.

Pete Rowley: Mind-numbing, awful football. How long do WBA fans have to put up with this?

  9. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 21 October 2017

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Ryan Bertrand's deflected free-kick was as close as we came in that half.

The hosts haven't created much with their only other dangerous effort being a Maya Yoshida header from a corner.

Gareth Barry blasted into the side netting from range early on for West Brom but haven't looked potent at all going forward. More on that coming up...

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 21 October 2017

Nope. The ball switches sides but doesn't come out of the middle third of the pitch.

    That was not great.

Simon Rigler: The anxious unpredictability caused by supporting Bournemouth makes me intrigued by the tedious reliability of WBA and Saints.

Stuart Jarvis: WBA - turgid. No ambition. No drive. No entertainment. No fun.

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 44 mins

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

    A save!

Southampton's sixth corner of the half is threatening and picks out Maya Yoshida. The Japanese international heads down into the ground but Ben Foster does well to leap and push the ball wide.

The following corner again finds Yoshida and he goes for an acrobatic overhead kick that goes a couple of yards wide. It never threatened the net but it gets the home fans off their seats.

The second corner is played short and the following cross looks dangerous but is headed clear. That releases West Brom, giving them the opportunity to break at speed.

Rondon takes up the charge but in the end runs down an alley that's fully blocked by Virgil van Dijk. The striker cleverly swings the ball out to the left flank where strangely right-back Allan Nyom collects the ball but he fires high and very, very wide.

    That. Was. Bad.

If we're going to get a goal today I fancy it might come from a set piece. Southampton have another chance to cross from the left corner flag but it's nodded behind for a second effort...

  16. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

    *Puffs cheeks out

This game is not living up to the Premier League day that preceded it. Another needless free-kick given away and the play is broken up once again.

It's raining at St Mary's if you're wondering.

  17. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

How big an impact will that have on the tight defence of West Brom?

Evans is such a key player for them. It looks as though Allan Nyom has come on at right back and Craig Dawson has moved from that position into central defence.

Still Southampton press but are needlessly caught offside. Mauricio Pellegrino slaps his thighs in frustration.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 33 mins

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

    Oooooo. This is nasty.

West Brom are dealt a big blow as their captain Jonny Evans day is done.

He went up for a header, was accidentally knocked off balance in mid-air and as a result slammed down from a height onto his shoulder. The Northern Irishman is not showing any pain as he makes his own way off but the physio signaled a substitution was needed immediately.

    On comes Allan Nyom.

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Shane Long just can't find the back of the net!

Southampton break at pace from a West Brom free-kick and Manolo Gabbiadini slides the ball into the onrushing Shane Long about six yards out.

The run was perfect but at pace the Irishman just couldn't sort out his feet to convert. His 25-game wait for goal goes on...

Aaaaand once again after my build-up the end product is poor.

Chadli blasts his free-kick into the wall and Southampton clear.

    This game needs a goal.
