Everton 1-0 Arsenal
Goodison Park as buoyant as I've heard it all season. The hosts are having a good spell now, Nikola Vlasic getting on the ball.

Plenty of questions from Arsenal fans...
It must be the 4/5th goal this season when Xhaka has given it away on the edge of the box and we concede from it. He wants too much time and is too easy to dispossess and opposition teams know it. Why can't he learn and if he can't learn why is he starting?
Ash, London
Sorry, but whether you think he’s past it or not, why on earth do you stand off Wayne Rooney from there???

I went early on the 'Mesut Ozil having a good game' alert. He is back to his loose best now, gifting away possession on halfway line and then just standing and watching. What a frustrating player.
Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney do well to work a crossing chance on the right but Leighton Baines' header at the back stick is charged down.

Ar Vind: Arsene must be sick of coming to Merseyside
Alf: If Arsenal lose, the support behind Wenger will fade. If Everton lose, Koeman could lose his job. A must-win for both clubs
Grumpy Expat: Once again Arsenal have shown that they can't defend for toffees
Everton 1-0 Arsenal
A win today would send Everton up to 13th, only two points behind Arsenal. Crisis?

It’s just like being back in 2002. Nerves were spreading through the Goodison faithful...well cometh the hour, cometh Wayne Rooney.
A strike every bit as sweet as THAT one 15 years ago. Suddenly the Everton supporters have found their voices again. “There’s only one Wayne Rooney...”
Everton 1-0 Arsenal
Never say never, but this is never finishing 1-0. Arsenal still look like scoring in every attack as Alexandre Lacazette skips past a sluggish Ashley Williams but then flashes a shot into the side-netting.

A bewildered Arsene Wenger runs a hand through his hair on the touchline - against the run of play doesn't even cover that.
Arsenal had run all over Everton before that goal but Wayne Rooney still has the class to pick out a very special finish.
Everton 1-0 Arsenal
The good and the bad of Jordan Pickford as he only parries a shot from Alexis Sanchez, should have held it, but his reactions are stellar to turn away Aaron Ramsey's follow-up.

With all due respect, this is not just Everton suddenly playing well. It is putting pressure on the ball and forcing mistakes from Arsenal. Problems of Arsenal's own making.

Tabyeesh: You KNOW that when Arsenal are playing so well without scoring they are going to concede. #DejaKoe, external
Dan Graham: Let’s lay off the #lfc, external have the biggest defensive issues eh?! Most of the top six do. What on earth was that, Arsenal?!

I was just about to say that Everton need to put more pressure on the Arsenal back three. Gueye wins the ball, Arsenal back off and Rooney gets the ball out of his feet and then whips it round like he did 15 minutes ago.
Only Arsenal can be behind in a game they have three one-on-ones already. Arsenal in a nutshell. Everton have one chance and bang.
I don't get what role Xhaka fulfills in this Arsenal side.
Everton 1-0 Arsenal
You couldn't get a more 'against the run of play' goal than that. Now Petr Cech dithers on the ball and Dominic Calvert-Lewin tackles him, almost two! The chance is gone.
Wayne Rooney
Rolling back the years!
Everton have not been in the game at all but they lead thanks to a beauty from Wayne Rooney! Not dissimilar to that famous first goal 15 years ago this week.
Granit Xhaka has his pocket picked in midfield by Idrissa Gueye, Rooney picks it up 25 yards out, waits for a decoy runner to take a man away and then whips it past Petr Cech. Instinctive. Brilliant.

That is a magnificent save again. They are cutting through like a knife through butter. The runners are not being challenged. You need to go with the runners.
Everton 0-0 Arsenal
Everton are there for the taking. My word.
Arsenal are being made to look like world beaters in these opening minutes and again it's only Jordan Pickford who prevents the opener. Aaron Ramsey gets down the right after a give-and-go, he squares to Alexandre Lacazette, who rolls his man and shoots in one fluid movement. Pickford saves with his shins.
Everton 0-0 Arsenal
Mesut Ozil is having one of those days. One of those days where he looks like a Real Madrid player, a World Cup winner. Everton haven't been able to get close to him since that first-minute challenge. He's dancing around in midfield, knitting play together, conducting the band.
Arsenal well on top as Jordan Pickford pushes away Alexandre Lacazete's shot from a tight angle.
Everton 0-0 Arsenal
Everton are basically playing Idrissa Gueye in central midfield on his own with three number 10s ahead of him. Unsurprisingly the hosts are getting swamped.
Everton 0-0 Arsenal
I hadn't spotted a touch from Jordan Pickford but yep, he got the merest touch to palm that shot away. Arsenal have started wonderfully here. Alexis Sanchez runs through and ends up on the deck.
Everton look a mess.
