Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson: "It is hard for us to come out and defend ourselves. It was not good enough. Tottenham deserved to win. We are a fantastic team but we need to work on some things to put it right.

"We didn’t start well. We need to be ready for the game. I know Dejan Lovren came off but it could have been any of us that came off. We got back into it but concede a sloppy goal that kills us. A disappointing day and frustrating.

"We will do everything we can to change it. We have to keep working hard. Deserved criticism will come our way. We need a reaction quickly and bounce back in training and games. But I believe we can."

Long serving Spurs fan, I feel for Klopp and Liverpool. Spurs defended like children for over a decade, we're the highest-conceding team in PL history. It's painful to watch as a fan...and we've been lucky with some great value buys. I imagine they're working on it every day...but for whatever reason it's not working. Sounds obvious, but they need to spend. A lot.

  5. 'We will try to catch City'published at 18:29 British Summer Time 22 October 2017

    Tottenham 4-1 Liverpool

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino: "I am very pleased. Tuesday in Madrid was an amazing effort and so was this, so thank you to the players.

"Our fans were fantastic it was an amazing game and we played really really well. We tried to control the game despite conceding a lot of the ball.

"We were clinical and so aggressive. It is so important. We knew very well that Liverpool would try to play and the plan worked. They are a gerat team.

"The team is starting to build confidence at Wembley. It is important to make this feel like home, it is key for us. It seems like we are starting to show that here.

"It is the third season that we are trying to catch someone. Manchester City are doing very well, they have an amazing squad and one of the best managers in the world. We see what happens, we believe, we will try to catch them. We are focused every day.

"I spoke to Diego Maradona before the game, it was very emotional. He brings very good energy. He is the best player ever in football history."

  6. 'It is our responsibility' - Klopppublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 22 October 2017

    Tottenham 4-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Match of the Day: "We had it felt like 60, 70% possession, but after 2-0, you saw the goals, what we did around the goals, easy to defend, we have defended situations like this all season.

"We had our chances, scored one, and the game was on the table. Being down one goal at Tottenham, you can fix it. The third is down to completely not concentrating off the ball. Four mistakes from us, and then Dele doesn't even hit the ball 100%.

"After 10 minutes of the second half we gave another goal away. That shows the problem of the game - they were much more spot on and that's 100% our responsibility.

"It is our responsibility. No I don't coach the type of defending for the first throw in... the second goal, we miss the ball and then Son is quicker. We put it on a plate.

"It's not about confidence. It's just about being 100% spot on. It was a really average day for us today."

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino on Sky Sports: "It was fantastic, a fantastic performance, the players were fantastic and we started very well.

"I am so happy for our fans, in front of Diego Maradona, Kobe Bryant... a fantastic day for us.

"Many things were pleasing this afternoon - the commitment of the players, the way that we play, the fans were fantastic, Wembley starts to feel home, that we can win here and the confidence is so important for us.

"It is important to try to play football, don't give them space. If you open the channel we will concede a goal, we made a mistake but I think it was a foul before that on Harry Kane.

"We are very pleased because we played well."

On Harry Kane's substitution: "He's tired, three games in one week and the effort was amazing from him. Harry Kane is a fantastic player, one of the best strikers, it's difficult to find words to describe him - he's unbelievable, so professional, the effort when we don't have the ball, everything is fantastic - so professional."

Liverpool defender Joel Matip on Sky Sports: "We gave them the opportunities, it was not like they played the perfect balls, we gave them the opportunities - we have to stop the mistakes.

"Most teams at home with the stand in their back are always stronger. (Away from home) I am a defender and I should take care of this.

"We don't think about the title race at the moment, we only try to get back in a good mood for next week."

    Tottenham 4-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Sky Sports: "The whole game the whole result was all our fault - Tottenham was good, they needed to be good, but we made it much too easy for them.

"The first goal was a little throw in and we are not really there. It was just really bad, bad, bad defending. The second, a counter attack, when the ball passes Dejan Lovren it is already too late.

"Coming back in the game with the goal we had our chances, but it's nothing to talk about today.

"The third one, it's a completely open situation. We make the foul, again, all our fault. The fourth - second ball and third ball for Tottenham, their desire was bigger than ours.

"The game was finished then. We came here for a result and had not one second to get a result."

On Dejan Lovren's defending for Harry Kane's second goal: "If I am involved in this situation on the pitch, then Harry cannot get the ball."

Here's Tottenham's two-goal man Harry Kane on Sky Sports: "Unbelievable, we wanted to start fast and get the crowd on their feet - that's exactly what we did.

"I thought we played really well. Their goal came against the run of play. We were pushing and could have got the third or fourth goal early on."

Son Heung-min is asked whether that was Spurs' best performance at Wembley: "Ermmmmmmm....."

Moving on, Son added: "We deserved to win, the early goal was very important from this monster (Harry Kane).

"We have to just keep thinking positive like we did today. We worked really hard every home game to get three points."

You people going on about Klopp have no idea about football. Most of you have probably never played the game, probably never been to Anfield and probably have no idea whatsoever of how long or what it takes to put a successful team together. The Premier League is the hardest league in the world and there is a shortage of top class players in every country so managers shouldn’t waste money buying players for the sake of buying them. Before you start trying to put me in my place you should know I played the game for fifty odd years, including 25 as a goalkeeper so I know what I’m talking about.
