I was very impressed by Watford after watching them beat West Ham. The Hornets use the ball well, especially down the flanks, and they have plenty of ideas when they come forward.

Newcastle's mistake against Manchester United was probably taking the lead. They did create another very good chance when they were 1-0 up, but Jacob Murphy missed it, and they were well beaten in the end.

That made it three defeats on the spin for the Magpies, and I do not think their manager Rafael Benitez will want to risk a fourth. I am expecting this game to be very tight, and the points to be shared.

    Lawro's prediction: 1-1

Following three defeats in a row, Newcastle's stock must have fallen somewhat - a fourth wouldn't be a spur for the club's prospective buyers to up their offer to what Mike Ashley wants.

Not that it has seemed to bother him before, but it would increase the pressure from the fans to get a deal done quickly. Successive home losses to Bournemouth and Watford wouldn't do.

Repeated Everton bids wouldn't do for Watford to part with head coach Marco Silva either.

They've passed up on making a quick buck in the hope of greater rewards in the (relatively!) longer term by keeping him.

Is that it then? He's staying? He's certainly not saying.

I am not expecting West Brom caretaker manager Gary Megson to try to change much about the Baggies' style of play following Tony Pulis' departure.

Tottenham bounced back from the disappointment of their derby defeat by Arsenal by beating Borussia Dortmund, and I think they will win this one pretty comfortably too.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill will take his time before deciding his next career move.

The 48-year-old has received a number of offers, at both club and international level.

He has already turned one significant opportunity down because he did not feel it was the right move.

Despite the clamour for his services, O'Neill intends to assess each offer on its merits in an effort to ensure he gets his decision right.

West Brom have held talks with Alan Pardew as they close in on the appointment of a new manager.

The 56-year-old is favourite to replace Tony Pulis, who was sacked on Monday after two victories in 21 games.

Former Crystal Palace manager Pardew, a former team-mate of West Brom technical director Nick Hammond, is understood to have met Baggies chief executive John Williams late last week.

It is understood a decision on Pulis' successor is yet to be made.

Twelve games in and Tottenham sit 11 points behind the Premier League leaders Manchester City. At the same stage last season they were only a point better off but just four points behind then leaders Chelsea.

The next month is key for Spurs, after today’s game with West Brom they play Leicester, Watford, Stoke and Brighton and you suspect they’ll have to win all of those to have any chance of getting near City before their trip to Etihad Stadium on the 16 December.

As for West Brom, the question is: where do they go from here? It appears Alan Pardew is waiting in the wings to take charge but the immediate priority is to halt the alarming slump. It’s just two wins in 21 league games, with the last one coming on 19 August. Will Wembley be the venue for the start of the revival?

West Brom v Tottenham (15:00 GMT)

Any suggestion that last week's defeat at Arsenal was the start of a Tottenham blip were firmly dispelled by the 2-1 win in Dortmund on Tuesday.

With Champions League qualification secured, Spurs have the chance to concentrate on catching the Manchester clubs. That could be bad news for West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies wouldn't have relished a trip to face Tottenham at any time, especially now the hosts have seemingly got over their issues at Wembley, and their task doesn't look any easier in the wake of Tony Pulis' departure.

Gary Megson is a familiar face for the players and that will help West Brom, but I can't see Spurs slipping up.
