    Chelsea 3-1 Newcastle

Jonjo Shelvey is now on for Mo Diame, but it's going to take some effort to lead a Newcastle revival here.

Hazard almost completes his hat-trick as he races on to a through ball, but Karl Darlow stands tall this time and blocks the attempted chip finish.

The Belgium international's only previous hat-trick for Chelsea came against Newcastle - but he won't get one today, as he is replaced by Willian.

I'm not sure what words to use about Hazard - that's taking the Michael a little bit, but that sums up the confidence of the man. He's an exquisite footballer.

Now that's cheeky. Eden Hazard chips in the penalty that surely finishes the contest.

It's not been a good day for Matt Ritchie - having given away the ball in the build-up to Chelsea's second, he now trips Victor Moses as the Chelsea man latches on to Cesc Fabregas' pass.

Hazard takes the Panenka route, and Karl Darlow can only watch as he dives to his left.

It was the spin on the ball, it was the bounce. He didn't expect it to zip along. That was as good a move as you will see but the bounce did Hazard there.

    Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

So nearly goal number three for Chelsea, which probably would have wrapped up the win. Lovely stuff from Eden Hazard, who glides into Newcastle territory, then chases Danny Drinkwater's clipped return pass and just fails to make a meaningful connection as Karl Darlow advances to meet him. The ball rolls behind, and Hazard lies frustrated on the turf.

Chelsea win their 10th corner, and are winning the battle for territory again. Cesc Fabregas delivers an outswinger, just too high for Alvaro Morata. Eden Hazard picks up the ball on the left, drifts in past Jacob Murphy and hits a low cross that Karl Darlow gathers.

Cesar Azpilicueta chips in an angled cross from the right for Chelsea. Victor Moses is well placed and flicks a header goalwards, but it's straight into the arms of Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow. Second half needs livening up a bit.

Have you got enough match winners in the side for Newcastle? You've got one on the bench and I can't even see him warming up to be fair.

Now it's Newcastle having a spell of possession, and Chelsea sitting deep. Then Dwight Gayle goes and spoils it all by coming back to receive possession from an offside position, and the visitors lose all the momentum they were trying to build up. Bit of a lack of concentration there from Gayle.

    Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

Newcastle are having the odd encouraging moment here, and that's just a warning to Chelsea that they cannot get too comfortable at 2-1.

Ayoze Perez has a pop from 30 yards, like a kid at a fairground on the coconut shy. He's a long way from winning the stuffed dinosaur, though, as the shot flies well wide. That's his last contribution, as he makes way for Isaac Hayden.

David Ljunggren: There's no way Newcastle will stay up unless our players learn to keep and pass the ball properly. This is embarrassingly poor.

David P H Thomas: This may sound harsh but I feel almost all of this Newcastle team are Championship quality not Premier League

I don't think it's a penalty, it's admirable he tried to stay up.

Hazard again, trying to wriggle free of the clutches of Newcastle's defenders, edges into the penalty area... In the end, he is overcome by numbers, and loses his balance. there are muted penalty appeals, but it looks as if he stumbled into Chancel Mbemba. No foul given, and rightly.

    Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

Eden Hazard just spots a gap amid the fog of Newcastle defenders, speeds inside from the left on to his right foot and fires a 25-yarder that bounces off Newcastle captain Ciaran Clark and rolls just wide. For all that wrongfooted keeper Karl Darlow could do there, it might as well have been going in.

We're now back to where we were for much of the first half, with Chelsea enjoying lots of possession in front of a deep-sitting Newcastle side. Cesc Fabregas tries to make progress down the right, and the ball comes off Ayoze Perez for a corner.

Fabregas takes, Jacob Murphy clears. Chelsea start again...

It's unlikely but they've got to commit more men forward from wider positions and the middle of the park. We'll see if they've got the confidence to do that. It's very difficult against a good team.

    Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

Matt Ritchie tries to set a Newcastle attack going with an angled ball down the left towards Dwight Gayle, who chases gamely, but runs out of pitch before he can catch it.

Jacob Murphy down the right gets past Antonio Rudiger and whips over a decent cross. Gayle and Jacob Murphy, in the centre, stand by the penalty spot and admire it, as if it were a piece of performance art. Which in the end, I guess it pretty much was.
