Bob Koh: World Cup after World Cup, Euro after Euro, England can't seem to win. But I say this time it will be different. England will finally reach the semis, scrape into the final and win the football World Cup 2018

Nul Points: If an England player scores three goals in their second World Cup match, would it be a Panama Hat Trick?

Yes it would, Nul. Perhaps the corridor of uncertainty will be renamed the Panama Canal? I'll stop now.

Rafael Benitez returns to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his tumultuous seven-month spell in charge of Chelsea that ended with a European trophy in Amsterdam.

His time in west London had its challenging moments and the same can be said for his Newcastle season so far.

However, the point gained from a two-goal deficit at West Brom during the week was an important one on the back of four straight defeats and they would take a repeat in this one.

Antonio Conte let his frustrations get the better of him during Chelsea's narrow win over Swansea and will hope for a calmer, more straightforward 90 minutes.

Having dropped eight points already at home this season, the Blues boss is aware they have to keep winning and stay in the chasing pack.

Rafa, a decent man. A good coach. Never a good fit for Chelsea. Shocking team selection when we were in Yokohama!

Always glad to receive your texts, but please remember to put your name on - or we can't credit you!

  5. Team news: Hazard returnspublished at 11:33 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

    Chelsea v Newcastle (12:30 GMT)

Some breaking team news for you: Eden Hazard returns as Chelsea make four changes to the team who beat Swansea.

Three changes for Newcastle: Dwight Gayle comes in up front as Joselu is dropped. I can think of one or two Newcastle fans who will be happy about that.

  6. England are 'organised'published at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

Panama coach Hernan Dario Gomez, meanwhile, suggested that England do not have anyone to frighten them.

"For me, the only truly dangerous player in the world is Messi," he said. He also described England as "organised" and "practical", which makes them sound like an item of Ikea shelving.

There's a touch of deja vu for Gomez, who coached Colombia at the 1998 World Cup - when they also drew Tunisia and England in the group stage. And went out.

  8. 'We are capable of beating England'published at 11:22 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

Tunisia coach Nabil Maaloul suggested that Belgium will win the group, with Tunisia and England scrapping it out for the other place in the last 16.

"We know the England team have improved with their new coach, and Belgium have also improved," he said. "We have a chance. On paper, Belgium are the favourites in the group, but second place will be contested by Tunisia and England.

"I think we are capable of competing with this England team and capable of beating them."

Gareth Southgate, you have been warned...

Andrew Pollard: Good to see England fans and pundits already putting Belgium down as easy pickings. Confidence and belief? Sure. But do they not realise it's this arrogance and superiority complex that makes other nation's love to see them fail?

  10. England a 'World Cup final' for Tunisia and Panama - Gerrardpublished at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

More from Steven Gerrard speaking to BBC 5 live about England's World Cup draw....

"It's their World Cup final, in those countries they all cover the Premier League, they'll all know everything about the players they're coming up against.

"Those two nations will know they're not going to win the World Cup but if they can get a scalp in beating England or getting a good result against England they'll all be celebrating back home.

"That's the pressure and the respect England have. They have to take into the tournament with them that, every single country against England, it's their World Cup final."

Gerrard happy to play Belgium last

Former England captain Steven Gerrard was on BBC 5 live following the World Cup draw and he's pleased the side will face Tunisia, Panama and Belgium.....

"I was happy with the draw. Obviously, everyone will be talking about the England v Belgium game but I think the important thing is to keep the focus on trying to get the six points from the other two, who will be tricky and a good test in their own different ways.

"I was quite glad it came in that order (Belgium final game) because I think you can go into the other two games fully focused and fully concentrated on the individual games and I think that's the key to getting out of the group."

You'll have seen that England have been drawn in Group G, alongside Belgium, Tunisia and Panama... All sorts of interesting stories in that pool - not least the fact that Belgium manager Roberto Martinez's daughter is English, and he still has a home near Wigan, as far as I'm aware.

"I knew we were going to get England," Martinez said. "My daughter is English, so that's the first battle I am going to have when I get home. She was born in England, but I'm sure I can persuade her to support Belgium."

  13. Bow tie of Godpublished at 11:02 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

    Chelsea v Newcastle (12:30 GMT)

Plenty for the Football Focus pundits to discuss too, what with yesterday's never-ending World Cup draw, the highlight of which was undoubtedly Diego Maradona's bow tie. (I believe it caused such a stir, that it's already up to 15th in the Fifa rankings.)

  16. 'No presents for you'published at 10:50 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

    Chelsea v Newcastle (12:30 GMT)

Conte was fined £8,000 for his outburst, having accepted a charge of misconduct.

He then claimed that paying the fine meant that there would be no present for his wife Elisabetta, whose birthday is coming up.

"My wife is angry," he said. "It is her birthday in two days and I said for this reason I will not buy a gift."

That's... that's not how it works, Antonio. No, no.

Standing beside Benitez on the touchline this lunchtime will be Antonio Conte, who has avoided a touchline ban after being sent to the stand for shouting in the face of fourth official Lee Mason during Wednesday's 1-0 win over Swansea.

Perhaps Conte was angry because he'd heard all the cheese advent calendars had sold out.

  20. 'What do you think, John?'published at 10:36 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

    Chelsea v Newcastle (12:30 GMT)

My favourite memory of Benitez's brief spell at Chelsea relates to a game they won at Aston Villa just before he left.

After the match, John Motson burrowed his way down to the changing rooms to get Benitez's thoughts.

"Does this win improve your chances of getting the job full-time?" Motty asked.

Benitez almost burst out laughing as he replied: "What do you think, John?"

Jose Mourinho arrived the following month.
