Alexis Sanchez loses the ball and reacts towards Maya Yoshida, who makes nothing of it and Saints surge up the other end.

Good scrambling by the Arsenal defence to get back and divert it out for a corner.

Saints now trying to pin Arsenal back - helped out by a clearly injured Aaron Ramsey who is unable to help the visitors in attack and defence.

Oh no. Saints clear another Arsenal attack and suddenly it's two-on-two, with Sofiane Boufal surging through the middle.

But he delays the pass to Charlie Austin and the Saints striker is caught offside. Just. Relief for Arsenal, anguish for the Saints bench.

Jack Stephens, who's had a terrific game, now goes into the book for time wasting at a throw-in.

Arsenal have gone for a change of shape, with Mertesacker off they've gone to a back four.

And with the introduction of Giroud, they've more of a physical presence up front.

Approaching the final 10 minutes at St Mary's. Arsenal win another corner but it's poor from Ozil and doesn't beat the first man.

Wilshere gets hold of it but his ball back in is easily gathered by Forster. Uninspiring from the visitors and more stoic defence from Saints.

The resulting free-kick catches out the Arsenal defence but Virgil van Dijk can't get a head on it despite being free in behind.

Here's some reaction from Jurgen Klopp after his rather strange team selection for the Merseyside derby.

"{Dominic Solanke] He's good enough. There are a lot of English players on the pitch today so they know about the importance of the derby, for sure.

"Dom is a footballer from head to toe, he is all around a really proper professional. I'm happy for him that he can [have this chance].

"It's a part of the season where you have to make the changes when you can make the changes.

"I think all the Champions League sides, or Europa League sides, made a lot of changes [in midweek].

"Their games, maybe they were not as important as ours was, we had to go through a very intense game."
