  4. CLOSE!published at 19:55 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

    Bristol City 0-0 Stoke

Charlie Adam's pass back to the keeper is a poor one and Bristol's Famara Diedhiou latches on to it. He strikes well and forces Lee Grant to make a smart save low to his left from close range.

    Perfect start for the Hammers.

West Ham have reduced ticket prices for tonight's game but it still feels a little deserted in here with the match announcer's voice echoing around the stadium as he reads out the line-ups.

Marko Arnautovic hasn't done much for West Ham yet other than get himself sent off at Southampton so you'd imagine he'll want to assert himself on proceedings.

Phil Parkinson's made seven changes to his Bolton team with a huge home game against fellow Championship strugglers Brentford coming up on Saturday.

Wolves v Bristol Rovers (19:45 BST)

It's a tough test for Bristol Rovers against one of the most expensively assembled sides in the Championship.

Wolves, who signed midfielder Ruben Neves from Porto for a Championship-record fee in the summer, are flying high in England's second tier, second to Leeds only on goal difference.

The hosts will certainly fancy their chances. They have progressed past lower league opposition in 11 of their last 12 League Cup games at the Molineux.

    Brentford v Norwich (19:45 BST)

It's another all-Championship tie at Brentford as the Bees take on Norwich.

Brentford's only normal-time win so far this season has come in the Carabao Cup - a 4-1 second-round victory at QPR.

Norwich, meanwhile, are going well, having lost just three games so far this term.

“Before the first game in the cup, I said the cup has a high importance," says Norwich boss Daniel Farke.

"We want to go there and win this game; otherwise, we would send a postcard to Brentford and say: ‘Okay, we don’t want to go through to the next round’ but we want to try everything to win this game.”

There are a few familiar faces for Premier League fans from this all-Championship encounter, as Chris Samba, Alan Hutton and Ritchie De Laet make up three-quarters of Aston Villa's back four and Micah Richards on the bench.

Britt Assombalonga, Middlesbrough's match-winner on Saturday, starts on the bench for the visitors.

Two sides with hopes of promotion back to the Premier League this season meet at Villa Park.

  18. Gifs = goals?published at 19:16 British Summer Time 19 September 2017

Bristol City v Stoke (19:45 BST)

Gifs are everywhere these days. You pretty much can't make a comment on Twitter without someone replying with a surprised owl or Jim Carrey pulling a funny face.

Gifs are, apparently, also benefiting Bristol City. The Robins are the Championship's highest scorers and it's been suggested that the little clips the club films of players celebrating scoring is motivating them to score more.

    Madness.

The year 2013 was a strange one in domestic cup competitions.

Not only did Wigan win the FA Cup but Swansea triumphed in the League Cup, ending Bradford City's incredible run to the final.

But since then, the Swans have not had much fun in the competition, only reaching the fourth round once.

Wilfried Bony makes his first start for Swansea since rejoining the club.
