Aaron Ramsey takes the free-kick - that's one from the Harry Kane (Iceland) portfolio.

Rubbish. Heads in hands all round the ground.

That was a clumsy and unnecessary challenge from Duffy, who has been very good defensively tonight.

They do, well organised and well drilled. A horrible team to fall behind to, in the nicest possible way. Shane Duffy gives away a free-kick though, just where Gareth Bale would want it...

It is uncomfortable but you have to go through it - you can get ahead of yourself thinking you have it won and it can be taken away from you in a moment.

But at the moment the Republic look comfortable and organised and the Welsh threat has dissipated for now.

    Wales 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Full marks Wales fans as the anthem rings out in Cardiff once more. We are into the last 10 minutes.

Wales have offered very little since falling behind to be honest. Hal Robson-Kanu's header is the only effort on goal since half-time.

Ben Woodburn's cross from the left is good though - gathered by Darren Randolph.

    Slovakia sweating

As it stands in the play-offs, Republic of Ireland are eighth in the list of second-placed sides with 13 points from the admittable games.

Croatia are a place and a point above them. Slovakia are the second-placed team who are missing out on a play-off place as they have 12 points. Harsh.

A Wales equaliser, by the way, may well mean that neither of these two sides make it into the play-offs!

    Drama guaranteed.

  13. Big goal in Belgradepublished at 21:21 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Serbia 1-0 Georgia

Oh - and here is another important goal, Serbia lead at home to Georgia.

Remember, if they hold on for three points then they will top Group D, meaning the best either Wales of the Republic of Ireland can hope for is a play-off place.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 77 mins

    Wales 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Glenn Whelan is on for his 83rd cap (EIGHTY-THREE). He replaces Harry Arter.

  15. Postpublished at 77 mins

    Wales 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Martin O'Neill is going nuts on the touchline! Harry Arter is injured and O'Neill is livid with his midfielder for trying to carry on. SIT DOWN! And get treatment.

    Ireland are readying Glenn Whelan.

    Wales 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Darren Randolph spills a cross, kittens in the Irish defence, but he just about gathers it in.

    Still 16 minutes left...

Croatia have strengthened their grip on the game against Ukraine, with Andrej Kramaric bagging his second goal. They will finish second in Group I and will be in the play-offs.

It doesn't change anything for Republic of Ireland or Wales. The latter need to win.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 72 mins

    Wales 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Daryl Murphy is booked for an arm in the face of Aaron Ramsey, who had a high boot. That looked a bit harsh to me.

Serbia are still goalless. This could be slowest 20 minutes in the history of some Ireland fans' lives...

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 70 mins

    Wales 0-1 Republic of Ireland

Another change for Wales. Their final change. It's Sam Vokes on for Hal Robson-Kanu.

Why not go with two up front?

    WALES MUST WIN.

Wales still have time, even if it is running out. Aaron Ramsey rather panics and shoots over the top from long range.
