That counter [for the second goal] is perfect. Maybe there is a hint of handball, but they have dominated the game.

Wolves have put the work in during pre-season and Villa will measure themselves against this Wolves side to see where they are.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 74 mins

    Wolves 2-0 Aston Villa

A couple of changes after the goal.

Ben Marshall is on for Wolves in place of Ivan Cavaleiro, while Josh Onomah has come on for Albert Adomah for the visitors.

Wolves deserve their two-goal lead, and Molineux is in fine voice.

  3. Jota 'oozes class'published at 73 mins

    Wolves 2-0 Aston Villa

    Mel Eves
Former Wolves forward on BBC WM

I think Jota oozes class. He has been first-rate since the first time I saw him in a Wolves shirt.

I did say he was the main threat for Wolves at the start and he has not disappointed tonight.

This is sending a massive marker out to the rest of the Championship. He has been a different class today.

    Leo Bonatini

Substitute Leo Bonatini has his fifth Championship goal of the season, and it comes from a counter attack.

Diogo Jota bursts forward and runs at the backtracking Villa defence.

He dives into the area and it looks like another great Alan Hutton challenge has cleared the danger.

But the ball drops to Bonatini and the Brazilian finds the net from a tight angle to double Wolves' lead. A fine finish from the striker.

    Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Another fine bit of defending by Villa left-back Alan Hutton.

He makes a great recovery to block Ivan Cavaleiro's goalbound shot from just inside the area.

Just over 20 minutes remain at Molineux, and Wolves are heading two points clear at the top of the Championship table.

Conor Coady does well to intercept a ball which looked bound for the feet of Scott Hogan.

The defender has had a good game on his return to the Wolves starting XI.

Sunderland boss Simon Grayson told BBC Newcastle:

"It was a bit of a mixed bag.

"We got done with a set-piece, which rocked us again, because if you get the first goal it might just contribute to us getting the three points, but full credit to the players because they didn't feel sorry for themselves.

"There were a lot of positive performances in the second half, we kept on the front foot and it was a great goal.

"In the second half I thought there was only one team that was going to get that winner, unfortunately we couldn't quite get it."

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 65 mins

    Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

And we do see Scott Hogan come on, as he replaces youngster Keinan Davis up front for the visitors.

Can the former Brentford striker provide a spark for Villa?

We had a bit of a stoppage just now as Romain Saiss got some treatment after a coming together with his own team-mate Ivan Cavaleiro.

    Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Villa have had very little goal threat.

Keeper Sam Johnstone looks to set up a counter-attack but his long kick forward evades Robert Snodgrass.

It looks like we'll be seeing Scott Hogan from the Villa bench shortly.

  10. Wilder pleased with victory after international breakpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

FT: Sheffield United 1-0 Ipswich Town

    Chris WilderImage source, Rex Features

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"It is always interesting to see how they would rock up after the international break, because the week before what we had was an outstanding week and we were bang in form.

"The start of the game was really important, we got right out of the blocks and we were disappointed that we weren't up at half-time against a team that is resolute.

"They are a dangerous team and to beat a dangerous team after the international break 1-0, with a clean sheet, sends everyone home happy.

"We had to marry up a good performance with a win and I'm delighted we managed to do that."

    Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

    Garry Thompson

This is danger for Villa. They find themselves 1-0 down and if they now try to over compensate or over commit, they will find themselves further down.

    Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Diogo Jota looks to double his tally - and the hosts' lead - with a shot from 20 yards out but it goes wide.

Wolves are really spraying it around with confidence now.

Can Villa find a way back into the game? They have been very much on the back foot for the first 15 minutes of the second period.

    Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

    Mel Eves
Former Wolves forward on BBC WM

It has been coming. Villa just couldn't get out of their penalty area.

It has been a constant, constant wave of gold and black in the second half.

  14. goal

    Diogo Jota

    And there is the breakthrough!

It's Wolves' talisman Diogo Jota who gets the goal with a brilliant finish.

He gathers a ball in from the right from Ivan Cavaleiro on the edge of the area, and twists into the box.

Villa right-back Ahmed Elmohamady slips at the crucial moment and Jota blasts the ball left-footed past Sam Johnstone.

    Wolves 0-0 Aston Villa

Wolves are really dictating the game here, bossing possession and looking brighter with their passing and ideas.

Villa are well organised though, and looking fairly solid at the moment despite not having much of the ball since the break.

It's up to the hosts to break down the visiting defence.

Albert Adomah catches Romain Saiss to give Wolves a free-kick about 30 yards out on the right but Villa clear the danger.

  16. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Wolves 0-0 Aston Villa

A really good move from Wolves comes to nothing.

After some good passing, Matt Doherty's ball into the box comes to Ivan Cavaleiro on the left.

The Portuguese forward skews his effort badly on target, and it ends up going for a throw-in.

That is the kind of embarrassment every player would prefer to avoid.

A teasing ball into the Villa box from Ruben Neves, but visiting left-back Alan Hutton marshals Ivan Cavaleiro well and stops the Wolves man from getting near the ball.

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

    Wolves 0-0 Aston Villa

Wolves get the second half started at Molineux.

As it stands, they are going top of the Championship table - but can they take all three points?

There's one change at the break, with Brazilian striker Leo Bonatini replacing Helder Costa up front for the hosts.

  19. 'Leeds deserved more'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

    FT: Leeds 0-1 Reading

    Leeds v ReadingImage source, PA

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen told BBC Radio Leeds:

"It was not a good game. We knew it would be a difficult game after two defeats and as you saw in the first 20 or 25 minutes, we were building up too slow.

"In the second half we corrected that and I believe the team deserved better than the result we got today.

"We also have to face that we played Reading, a good team that likes to play. We didn't do enough, we have things to improve on but also I saw things from our last game against Sheffield Wednesday that we did much better."

  20. Luton's seventh heaven against Stevenagepublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

    FT: Luton Town 7-1 Stevenage

Luton Town boss Nathan Jones told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"It is always a tricky game, but thought we were were excellent from start to finish.

"We are not going to over elaborate on anything, it is a wonderful three points, it really is.

"We could have gone into half-time 4-0 up, but it was 3-1. After that we showed our professionalism and resilience. We came out and went after the next goal and got it on a counter attack."

On Luke Berry, who scored a hat-trick: "We brought him here because of his goalscoring prowess at his previous club. We want that from him and he showed it today."
