Helles Mammut: The Premier League wants their refs to be respected but decisions like the yellow card against Fabregas make that very difficult. Everyone sees after one repetition that this decision was flat-out wrong but the refs are left to look stupid and incompetent.

David Thackeray: How I wish I were neutral; it would be easier to appreciate this cracking game.

Oliver Viney: Great watch the first half even though no goals. Arsenal very much a one-man team with Sanchez and they will miss him when he leaves. Morata looks quite ordinary and heavy footed.

Fabulous game. Chances at both ends, both teams have had a go. Arsenal have edged it, but I have a feeling they needed to score as Conte will make changes.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2018

    Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea

And that is the end of the first half. Entertaining, yet surprisingly goalless.

Alvaro Morata should have put Chelsea ahead when he was clear through on goal but shot harmlessly wide.

At the other end, Alexis Sanchez managed to hit both posts with one shot after a fine save from Thibaut Courtois, who also did fantastically to deny Alexandre Lacazette.

  5. CLOSE!published at 45 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea

A lovely sliding challenge (good to see) from N'Golo Kante robs Mesut Ozil and Chelsea counter.

It falls to Eden Hazard who runs at the home defence. He fools the defenders by putting his foot on the top of the ball to stop it, that enables Cesc Fabregas to collect and shoot at goal, but his effort is just off target.

  6. No calmness from Contepublished at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2018

Antonio Conte said yesterday that he has started yoga to calm down. Not sure it's having much effect.

He hasn't left the touchline and has been barking orders at his team for the past 40 mins.

Arsene Wenger a bit calmer but wasn't very happy when Maitland-Niles didn't get awarded a penalty.

Darren Eaton: If this is the type of game we get with so much fixture congestion... I say, let them please play twice a week every week!

Jaylock: Bakayoko has been the most useless player on the pitch so far...Very wasteful and slow in possession.

Damian Fogarty: Maitland-Niles impressing even the neutral fans. Less said about his defensive team mates the better.

  8. YELLOW CARD - Fabregas (Chelsea)published at 42 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea

Wilshere was booked for a foul on Fabregas, and now the opposite has happened.

It is harsh on Fabregas as he won the ball with a well-timed sliding challenge, but he sees yellow.

Don't take a good sliding tackle out of the game. Nothing wrong with that.

Eden Hazard gets to the byeline and sends in a low cross to the near post, but Granit Xhaka is well placed to get to the ball first, before he is fouled by Tiemoue Bakayoko.

We haven't seen much of Alvaro Morata since that earlier horror miss.

Painful to watch Chambers. He's so poor. Not a Premier League player at all.

    Rick, Manchester.

OMG! How can nobody see that Moses touched Maitland-Niles with his knee and that threw his leg behind the other! This is what you are paid to see!

Conte needs to go. So many times he plays hopeless Bakayoko and Rudiger for the full games they are not Premier League quality. Switch to back three last year caused confusion in opponents but Arsenal, Spurs, United, City and now Palace and West Ham know how to beat the system but it never changes. Barcelona at the Nou Camp we'll play two holding midfielders and Chesterfield at home we'll play two holding midfielders.

Actually the free-kick is too close to goal (if possible) as Marcos Alonso can't get the ball up and over the wall and then down again.

It is over the wall no problem, but also over the crossbar.

At the other end, Mesut Ozil shoots just off target. Goalless, but entertaining.

Some fine defending from Cesar Azpilicueta as he produces a much needed header six yards from his own goal, with Alexis Sanchez ready to pounce from Mesut Ozil's floated ball into the back post.

Chelsea's Victor Moses nearly plays his side into trouble. A misjudged clearance nearly falls for Alexandre Lacazette but the Frenchman can't gather the ball, much to Moses' relief.

  17. YELLOW CARD - Wilshere (Arsenal)published at 31 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea

Former team-mates, but there is no love lost in this challenge from Jack Wilshere on Cesc Fabregas.

The Englishman dives in on Fabregas, it is mistimed, it sends the Spaniard clattering to the turf and earns Wilshere a well-deserved yellow card.

It is an incredibly open game; both teams are trying to go for the win. Maybe Arsene Wenger has said it is vital they go and win this game.

Arsenal need to score before half-time. They have almost surprised Chelsea with the way they have come out of the blocks, but I think Conte will address that at half time.

  20. Postpublished at 27 mins

Again Bakayoko shoots. Cesc Fabregas is the architect with a perfectly-weighted through ball, but Bakayoko, under pressure from Ainsley Maitland-Niles, fires at goal and it is too close to Petr Cech, who pushes it over the bar.

Then some needless pushing from the resulting corner penalises the visitors.
