    Leicester v Huddersfield (15:00 GMT)

No Jamie Vardy for Leicester, who bring in Islam Slimani who makes only his second Premier League start of the season for the Foxes. Vardy apparently has a groin tweak.

Adrien Silva is among the substitutes after belatedly completing his £22m move from Sporting Lisbon on Monday.

Demarai Gray is on the bench with Shinji Okazaki given a chance from the start while Vicente Iborra gives way to Matty James in midfield.

Huddersfield make five changes from the side that drew 0-0 with Burnley last time out. Steve Mounie is back in up front in place of Laurent Depoitre while Tommy Smith comes into the defence in place of Florent Hadergjonaj.

Elsewhere Chris Lowe, Joe Lolley and Danny Williams replace Scott Malone, Jonathan Hogg and Colin Quaner.

  4. Team newspublished at 14:08 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Burnley v Liverpool (15:00 GMT)

Just one change for Burnley. James Tarkowski returns at centre-back following suspension, replacing Kevin Long, who drops to the bench. Chris Wood remains absent through injury so Ashley Barnes starts in attack.

Liverpool make seven changes. The big news is the absence of both Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho. The former is injured. The latter is also presumably not fit as he is not in the squad. Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain start.

The only players to keep their place in the side are Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez, Emre Can and Sadio Mane. Roberto Firmino is on the bench. Simon Mignolet captains the side.

One player who has been impatiently waiting for the new year to arrive is Adrien Silva. He's on the bench, four months after the documentation for his £22m move from Sporting arrived 14 seconds after the deadline.

Leicester go into 2018 on the back of one point from their last four Premier League fixtures, while Huddersfield's four-match unbeaten run means they come into this match just three points behind the Foxes.

It finished 1-1 when these sides met in Yorkshire back in September, and it wouldn't be a major surprise if it finished all square again.

This is all very odd. I was saying earlier that it seemed crazy that Adrien Silva was not registered for today's game - and now he is on the bench after all!

No Jamie Vardy - that's the headline team news. He's not in the Leicester squad at all, maybe he's still having a party. Islam Slimani starts.

Huddersfield make five changes of their own. Rotation, rotation, rotation.

Mo Salah and Philippe Coutinho are not in the squad at all as Liverpool make SEVEN changes. Dominic Solanke and Adam Lallana start.

Burnley make one change - James Tarkowski is back.

  10. Will Hughes' gamble pay off?published at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2018

    Stoke v Newcastle (15:00 GMT)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

Mark Hughes says his calculated gamble of fielding a weakened team against Chelsea will be justified if Stoke come away with a win from this one.

Hughes said he was being pragmatic by resting several first-team regulars at Stamford Bridge with Newcastle's visit firmly in mind.

The Magpies have found goals hard to come by of late so Rafa Benitez will take heart from the fact they're facing the team with the worst defensive record in the Premier League this season.

Then his attentions will turn to the January transfer window and trying to bring in the quality striker they so desperately need.

Stoke and Newcastle have won one game each in their last five, and are both hovering just above the relegation zone.

Mark Hughes is feeling the heat from at least a section of the club's support, and his decision to rest a lot of players for the 5-0 hammering at Chelsea with this game in mid basically means Stoke have to win.

    Right?

Andre Gray - now at Watford - scored the winner for Burnley last season

When Burnley beat Liverpool on their last visit to Turf Moor in August 2016, it seemed a hugely significant moment for the Clarets.

Not only was it their first victory on their return to the Premier League and their first league win against Liverpool since 1974, but it also demonstrated that an energetic commitment to hard work out of possession can hold the key to victory against the game's elite.

It's a formula which has continued to reap rewards and has helped make them so difficult to break down.

They will again have to exhibit all those excellent traits against a side on an unbeaten 12-game run during which they've scored 34 goals - 16 more than Burnley have registered all season.

Did you see this? Barcelona kit manufacturers Nike advertised the club's shirts with Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho's name on the back.

Coutinho was the subject of failed bids by Barcelona in the summer and has been linked with joining them in January.

A listing, which has since been deleted, on the Nike website read: "Philippe Coutinho is ready to light up Camp Nou."

The Brazilian, 25, is sponsored by Nike and wears their boots.

Agreed Rob. It seems ludicrous to me!

What's the logic behind new player registration not happening immediately? I assume clubs pay them as of today but can't play them?

Midfielder Adrien Silva has finally joined Leicester City, after the Premier League club missed the deadline to sign him in August by 14 seconds.

Fifa rejected the 28-year-old's move from Sporting Lisbon in the summer as the paperwork arrived too late.

The Portugal international has been training with Leicester throughout the winter to maintain his fitness.

His £22m deal was completed on Monday, but he is not eligible for the Foxes' home match against Huddersfield.
