  1. A long wait for blue skies - and a Man City defeatpublished at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2018

No, this image is not photoshopped - there is a blue sky above Manchester this afternoon.

It has been a while, but not quite as long as it has been since City last tasted defeat in domestic competition - which was 258 days ago, on 23 April 2017.

That loss came in extra-time of their FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal and, of their 31 domestic games since, Pep Guardiola's side have won 27 (including two on penalties) and drawn four. Not a bad effort all in all, although I'm sure he will think they could have done better.

Burnley, whose own cup run last season was ended in the fifth round by non-league Lincoln, will be hoping they are the ones causing the shock this year.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola:"We are going to try to play the best team as possible.

"The schedule is what it is. All the doctors and physios around the world say you cannot recover after 48 hours, in such a demanding competition.

"All managers give our opinion about many issues. We are going to play and if the schedule says you have to play every two days, we are going to play."

  5. 'Unrealistic things happen'published at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2018

    Bolton v Huddersfield (15:00 GMT)

    Huddersfield boss David Wagner:

"We should not have over expectations of Terence Kongolo after two days but he's a very open-minded character. This is why he swapped from Monaco.

"I've never been to Monaco but I think it isn't one of the worst places in the world - and he came over to Huddersfield.

"Is it realistic to win the FA Cup? No it isn't. Was it realistic for Huddersfield Town to get promoted? No.

"Was it realistic for Huddersfield Town at the beginning of the season to have 24 points after 22 games in the Premier League? No.

"In football the unrealistic things happen and become possible."

  9. Can they do it on a cold Saturday in Coventry?published at 13:55 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2018

Stoke are unlikely to have played on a pitch as muddy as the one they’ll encounter at the Ricoh Arena today. It’s showing distinct wear and tear from the combined effects of football and rugby particularly in front of the main stand. Another problem for Mark Hughes to face on a vital day for him and his side.
