  1. 'Huddersfield's romantic start a distant memory'published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2018

Huddersfield Town v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

    Steve Bower
Match of the Day commentator at John Smith's Stadium

The very good friends reunited theme will have to wait until after the match for David Wagner and Jurgen Klopp. Talk of teammates, best men and godfathers offers the fixture a colourful backdrop but the harsh reality is that both managers desperately need the points.

I watched Liverpool go out of the FA Cup on Saturday, following on from their defeat at Swansea, in a lacklustre manner - with defending that is still leaving many, Klopp included, scratching their heads.

They have to maintain their Champions League push with a more solid performance in West Yorkshire.

Huddersfield's romantic start to their first ever Premier League season seems a distant memory. They will kick-off just two points above the relegation zone and six games without a win; it's a huge week that ends with a trip to Old Trafford.

  2. 'Palace are favourites here'published at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2018

West Ham v Crystal Palace (19:45 GMT)

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Match of the Day commentator at London Stadium

It's surely the most compelling top-flight relegation battle ever. Eleven clubs are in trouble. It's impossible to predict who'll go down.

If it's decided by points plucked from rat-race rivals, then Palace have ground to make up. Only West Brom have gained fewer from feverish fights. Five of the Eagles' last eight six-pointers will come away. Games like this will decide their fate.

It's the first of three successive six pointers for West Ham. Bad timing as they have 10 crucial players missing. Arthur Masuaku's disgusting behaviour and appropriate ban hasn't helped. Hammers purists will find it hard to forgive.

Palace have had longer to prepare. They're favourites here.

Mark Taylor: Liverpool front three are pretty formidable, but the other eight are very ordinary indeed. Let's see how right I am.

Harry: The only people a midfield of Xhaka, Elneny and Ramsey would strike fear into is Arsenal supporters.

Johnny Magrinho: Wow. Van Dijk on the bench? Incredible decision. Gomez is awful at right back and yet starts ahead of Trent. Also incredible. Can (arguably our worst player over the last two games) starts along with Henderson who’s surely lacking match fitness. Can see Huddersfield winning tonight!

  4. 'A very difficult game to predict'published at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2018

Swansea City v Arsenal (19:45 GMT)

    Alistair Mann
    MOTD commentator at Liberty Stadium

As a consequence of the Carlos Carvalhal factor, this game has become a very difficult one to predict.

Since his appointment, Swansea have lost just one of his seven games at the helm, with both confidence and self-belief now significantly improved. Seven points from his four league games in charge has ensured the division's basement club are within a victory of escaping the bottom three.

Arsenal's inconsistencies are well documented - they're yet to win an away game in 2018 - with defeats at Nottingham Forest and at Bournemouth demonstrating their vulnerability.

The hosts will therefore fancy their chances of securing another win to further build on the platform their Portuguese boss has impressively laid.

  7. Lawro's predictionspublished at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2018

Swansea City v Arsenal (19:45 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

The Arsenal team could look quite different by the weekend if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jonny Evans both arrive, but I would still expect them to win this game - even without all their potential signings in place.

The Gunners had the weekend off, while Swansea picked quite a strong team for their draw with Notts County in the FA Cup.

Arsenal's away form has not been great but they will be fresh for this one and Henrikh Mkhitaryan should give them a lift on his debut too.

    Lawro's prediction: 0-2

Other predictions: West Ham 1-1 Crystal Palace, Huddersfield 1-1 Liverpool.

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

I think he has the quality to fit in at Man City. The way he played guiding Leicester to the title and this season he has stepped it up again.

But we are talking Alexis Sanchez and Riyad Mahrez and saying it was too much for Sanchez but the starting price for Mahrez is £50m, so the timing seems strange.

Neil: Instead of Giroud can't Dortmund take Danny Welbeck of our hands. Good little runner but obviously there would be no warranty.

Shah Muhaimin: Can’t help but feel Liverpool have been weakened while our rivals have strengthened. If we lose tonight we need to surely sign someone. I like Klopp but sometimes he just doesn’t see the obvious options.

Huddersfield make four changes from the team that lost at Stoke last time out in the Premier League with Chris Lowe keeping his place in the starting line-up after making his comeback in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Elsewhere on-loan defender Terence Kongolo is back in the team after a minor knock as Danish midfielder Philip Billing makes his first league start since 14 October. Laurent Depoitre is up top with Rajiv van La Parra dropping to the bench alongside former Red Tom Ince.

Huddersfield: Lossl, Hadergjonaj, Kongolo, Schindler, Jorgensen, Lowe, Mooy, Hogg, Billing, Mounie, Depoitre. Subs: Smith, Coleman, van La Parra, Pritchard, Ince, Quaner, Hefele.

Funny how football works, I bet Guardiola is ruing his decision not to sign Sanchez now Sane is out for six weeks. Mahrez is second rate to Sanchez and how much will they have to pay to get him....considering 30 million was too much....and they’ve just spent 57 million on another defender.....I’m starting to think Guardiola was trolling everyone when he said he’s on a budget.

    James

So Chelsea are going to give Arsenal money for their back up striker. Then they will let Dortmund have their back up striker which will then allow Arsenal to buy Dortmund's top quality striker in Aubameyang. Someone at Chelsea really hasn't thought this one through.

    Blue Pete

Why are Arsenal so bad at transfer negotiations, player contracts and developing players? Simple - Wenger. I’ve said for the past 6-7 years he needs to go. A control freak.

This is a hugely important game for both teams.

Huddersfield’s form hardly needs spelling out and Liverpool? Thrilling and outstanding against Manchester City, abysmal against Swansea, hardly much better than West Bromwich Albion although Albion thoroughly deserved that FA Cup win.

A few weeks ago Huddersfield looked relatively safe, no longer. Liverpool? You would have thought second place wasn’t beyond them... now you ask can they hold on to fourth?

  20. Everton's Besic wanted by Boropublished at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2018

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Middlesbrough are in talks with Everton over a potential loan move for Bosnian international midfield man Mo Besic before Wednesday transfer deadline. Dialogue is continuing between the clubs and Boro boss Tony Pulis is keen to add the 25-year-old to his squad.

Besic, whose Everton career has been troubled by injury since he was signed by then manager Roberto Martinez in a £4m deal from Hungarian side Ferencvaros in July 2014, has figured in only nine games this season and has not played since the turn of the year.
