  1. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Sergio Aguero is almost in on goal but Andrew Robertson does really well to come across and win it on the cover.

At the other end Sadio Mane finds Mo Salah with a backheel, his cross comes to nothing but seconds later he beats Kyle Walker and stabs wide.

    Great game so far!

Knowing Liverpool's defence and Manchester City's attack, Liverpool need at least six more goals to be sure of a win.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Liverpool are fast starters at Anfield and the stadium is a cauldron of noise as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's low drive makes the breakthrough.

Pep Guardiola is impassive in his technical area - early days but this was a fixture that always had a hint of danger for the previously unbeaten Premier League leaders.

I like Emre Can - he seems to control games in the middle of the park. He's had the most touches out of everybody so far, and he's really making it count.

It's brilliant from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Roberto Firmino does well to lay him off, and Oxlade-Chamberlain drives into space and unleashes a shot from range, and Ederson has no chance, it's right in the bottom corner, fantastic finish. What a start for Liverpool!

GOAL - Liverpool 1-0 Man Citypublished at 9 mins

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

What a goal! What a start!

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the nearly man of English football for so long, belts in a brilliant opening goal at a rowdy Anfield! There doesn't seem too much danger when the ball is popped into his feet about 45 yards from goal, but he drives past Fernandinho and then arrows a hard, low shot past Ederson and into the corner from 25ish yards.

    Really good finish!

    Robbie Savage

Good opening from Liverpool - they've had the best chance from Sadio Mane. It doesn't look like either side will be parking the bus today, both sides are looking to use their pacey wide men.

That was more dive than foul, no chance of it being a penalty and ref Andre Marriner gave nothing at all. Loris Karius is back in the side today and he makes a hash of clearing a routine looking backpass.

We're all feeling goals aren't we? I've sat through enough rubbish matches between the big sides in recent years though. Good start at Anfield, nice tempo to the game still.

Raheem Sterling is booed at every touch so far and he's on the floor inside the penalty area after a good ball in to him from Kevin de Bruyne.

    Foul? Dive?

Ash: Arguably the hottest two current attacking sides in the Premier League on show. Man City unbeaten with the best defensive record in the league, Liverpool unbeaten at home and have the best defensive record at home. This will either turn out a bore 0-0 draw or a 10-9 win.

    Robbie Savage

Fantastic move from Liverpool, they're patient play in the middle of the park almost paid off. Sadio Mane just couldn't quite bring the ball under control, if he had, he'd have had a great shooting opportunity.

Half chance! Roberto Firmino helps the ball over the top and Sadio Mane is running in free behind John Stones. He can't quite get the ball to settle down and get a shot away though. Mo Salah does shoot, blocked by Stones. But that was almost a very good opening for Liverpool.

It's started at such a fast pace - both sides want to press the ball. Liverpool's front four are flying at Man City's backline, but City are so composed, they're just knocking it about confidently.
