We're all looking at the top of the Premier League and thinking it's when Manchester City are going to win it but the race is on for those remaining three Champions League spots.

Southampton had four shots on target in the first half but haven't troubled Loris Karius at all with almost 25 minutes gone in this half. That second goal knocked the stuffing out of the them.

James Milner does well to keep the ball alive on the right but his cross is just above Sadio Mane. Southampton clear but only as far as Emre Can, who cannons an effort well, well over the bar.

Mohamed Salah charges forward with the ball, which sticks to him like glue as he evades a couple of challenges. The forward attempts to pick out Roberto Firmino but his cross is cut out.

I'd like to think that's an injury. Mario Lemina had been the one player that you could think could make a difference for Southampton.

James Ward-Prowse whips the ball in towards the near post for Wesley Hoedt, who flicks it just wide. Best chance of a very scrappy second half.

Liverpool make their first change of the game as James Milner replaces Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The way this game has worked out is perfect for Liverpool. They were gifted a first goal and scored a great second. Now Southampton have to come at them and that's where the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino come into play.

Southampton have been pretty flat at the start of this second half and there is nothing inspiring to suggest that they can get back into this game.

Jon: Lemina looks like the next canidate to be prompted from the LFC feeder club

Ash: Mario Lemina quite literally sickened by how easily Southampton has conceded goals today.

And here's the change as the unwell Mario Lemina is replaced by Sofiane Boufal.

Change coming up for Southampton. They've not got going so far in this half - neither side has to be fair - and Sofiane Boufal is going to be thrown into the mix.

Jurgen Klopp is grimacing. I can't tell whether that's because of the cold or elements of his side's performance. They are winning, and ultimately that's all that counts, but they haven't been at their fluid best today.

It's tricky for Southampton at the moment because they just haven't had a run of consistent performances under their belt.

They lack a little bit of direction. The players seem confused about what they are doing. That's the biggest worry. They don't seem to have a game-plan

Mario Lemina is checked over and appears good to keep going for now.

He then gets straight into the thick of things to block Sadio Mane's volley before Mohamed Salah puts the loose ball over.

Might be an early change coming for Southampton.

Emre Can is booked as he loses possession and then fouls a Southampton player in his attempt to win the ball back. Needless booking.

James Ward-Prowse bends an early cross into the box but it is too close to Loris Karius.

Southampton need an early goal.

Saladin: The Southampton defence again caught in second gear. Taking nothing away from Liverpool, but I don't think they deserve credit for the scoreline. Rash: No one talking about Karius not seeming as terrible as everybody first thought. Few saves against Spurs seems to have done him the world of confidence.
