    John Hartson
Former Wales striker on 5 Live

What a finish that is. What a cool, calm finish that is under the body of Joe Day. Spurs are well and truly in control and it could be a long night for Newport. It was always going to be a long night, especially if they conceded the first goal. Newport need to get the next goal if they are going to get anything out of it.

  5. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Danny Rose is brought down by Robbie Willmott on the edge of the area. This is a good position for the free-kick.

  6. Newport now must avoid doing a Notts Countypublished at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

    Michael Pearlman
    BBC Wales Sport at Wembley

WIth Spurs barely out of third gear and now in control of the game, Newport need to ensure they are not embarrassed at Wembley, a la Notts County's 8-1 humbling at Swansea last night.

Tottenham average 5.4 goals against League Two clubs at home in the FA Cup and the odds would be pretty short on them matching that feat tonight.

It is too easy for Tottenham at the moment...

  7. goal

GOAL - Erik Lamelapublished at 34 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

That's Erik Lamela's first goal since Septemer 2016 when he scored against Gillingham. It's brilliant work once again from Son Heung-min as he plays a lovely weighted ball into the box and Lamela slips it through the legs of Joe Day.

  8. CLOSE!published at 33 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Newport County

    It's all Spurs now.

Fernando Llorente and Son Heung-min link-up well and the South Korean fires one which goes just wide of Joe Day's right-hand post.

This is getting dangerous for Newport.

  9. Postpublished at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

    Tottenham 1-0 Newport County

"Newport need to get back on the bike," says commentator Conor McNamara on Radio 5 live.

    He's not wrong.

  10. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Newport County

Terrific save from Joe Day! First Erik Lamela releases a dangerous strike from the edge of the box which the Newport keeper punches away and he then reacts brilliantly at his near post to deny Son Heung-min from five yards.

  11. 'It is cruel'published at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

    Tottenham 1-0 Newport County

    John Hartson
Former Wales striker on 5 Live

It is cruel. Spurs worked it well. Fernando Llorente was strong on the edge of the box and it is Moussa Sissoko who plays it first time, but it hits the inside of his left boot and it is a wicked deflection.

It is a very unfortunate goal to give away, but Spurs were just pressing and getting control before the goal. It is a deflection and it is difficult for Newport County to take but Spurs were coming into the game before the goal.

  12. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Newport County

Danny Rose is taken out by a hefty challenge but referee Stuart Attwell says "play on" and that's exactly what Tottenham do.

They continue to spread the ball around the midfield and now Newport are pinned into their own half.

  13. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Newport County

That's a real blow for Newport because they had started so well. Tottenham are just starting to find their rhythm now though and you could sense opportunities were beginning to arise.

  14. goal

GOAL - Dan Butler OGpublished at 26 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Newport County

Moussa Sissoko tries to cross the ball in with his sidefoot but it takes a significant deflection off Newport's Dan Butler and leaves goalkeeper Joe Day with no chance.

  15. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newport County

Ouch! Eric Lamela tries an audacious overhead kick in the box but Ben Tozer is brave and gets his body in the way.

  16. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newport County

The first real chance of the match for Tottenham as Son Heung-min fakes a shot before slipping it right to Moussa Sissoko.

He crosses it into the box but Danny Rose, running onto it from the edge of the box, fires his strike into the side-netting.

  17. get involved

Get Involvedpublished at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

    Tottenham 0-0 Newport County

Some players just make you feel better as a fan just by their name on the team sheet. Toby Alderweireld is one of those.

    Simon, Danbury

Dele Alli on the bench. I hope he's wearing a seat belt in case he 'falls off'!

    Kev Barnes

    What do you mean Kev...??

  18. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Newport County

Dan Butler slides in superbly to knick the ball away from Serge Aurier but Frank Nouble can't quite keep it in.

He's been a real outlet for Newport so far and he's exploiting that space in behind Spurs' full-backs.

  19. Newport worried the Son will shinepublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

    Michael Pearlman
    BBC Wales Sport at Wembley

Good weather and Newport are about as closely associated as ham and vegetarianism, but the Exiles have been worried about the Son shining at Wembley and they would appear to be rightly concerned.

Tottenham's Heung-Min Son transformed the contest as a second half sub at Rodney Parade and he's looked easily their best attacking outlet so far, he seems to have the beating of David Pipe.

However, it is Newport who will be by far the happiest side as we approach the 20 minute mark.

  20. 'Newport look assured'published at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

    Tottenham 0-0 Newport County

    John Hartson
Former Wales striker on 5 Live

Newport look assured, their system is good, Padraig Amond is working alongside Frank Nouble up front and they have started like they belong here. Their confidence is up.
