    Chelsea 0-0 Barcelona

Barcelona look happy to let Chelsea have the ball in wide positions - without a big man in the middle to aim crosses at.

They are less happy about that!

Eden Hazard darts in off the right flank onto his favoured left peg and lets rip with a rocket that sizzles just past the apex of Marc Andre ter Stegen's top corner.

    Warning shot fired.

Lionel Messi gets the ball from a loose bit of Chelsea build-up play and stutters towards Cesar Azpilicueta on the edge of the box, all dipping shoulders and feinting feet.

But the Chelsea skipper slides in with a perfect tackle to nick the ball off his toe.

Looking forward to seeing how home side attack this. There needs to be an element of caution against a team like Barcelona, but be positive when you get the opportunity.

It’s a fantastic contest in prospect.

James: If Chelsea win this game, I'll burn my Messi shirt that I own because I am confident of a brace or hat trick from the star man.

Sean: I want to have faith but I can see Barca putting 4 past us tonight! We haven't exactly set the world alight recently, and Barcelona are not exactly a West Brom or a Hull....

Oliver: Don't understand why I am expected to want other English teams to do well in the Champions League. I cannot wait to see Chelsea get absolutely tonked tonight

I think when you look at any high-performing club, one where standards are demanding, where everyone’s on their back, every movement, every gesture, the results, the performances are under microscope – if there’s a breakdown between the top of the club and the manager, the players notice.

Footballers look at the coach and they look for absolute concentration and absolute intensity. And if any group of players notice that the owners of a club and the manager are likely going to divorce, people start to take their eye off the ball.

It feels like the misunderstanding between Conte and the board means that the Chelsea players have started to think about the World Cup coming up, transfer market rather than being absolutely intensely focused on day by day training.

  14. 'Conte can level the playing field'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2018

    Antonio ConteImage source, Getty Images

There’s hope for Chelsea. When you have a manager like Antonio Conte, you have someone who can level out the playing field or even tilt it in his side’s favour with that tactical nous he’s got. We’ve seen him upset the odds before, at the Euros for example when Italy played Spain. So I would trust in his ability to find one or two weaknesses in this Barcelona side.

They’ve come a long way, but if you look at their away performances in the Champions League in the group stages, they drew away at Juventus, drew away at Olympiakos and only won at Sporting Lisbon because of an own goal.
