Chelsea and Barcelona face each other for the 13th time in the Champions League here tonight - and Stamford Bridge already has that buzz that signals a special night.

Some of Barcelona's players have already been out for a pre-match walkabout and the stadium is a hive of actiivity inside and out.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has admitted to sleepless nights trying to fashion a plan to combat the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. We will soon find out if he has been successful.

Chelsea start with Eden Hazard up top and on his own and Alvaro Morato and Olivier Giroud on the bench.

Elsewhere Antonio Rudiger is preferred to Gary Cahill in a three-man central defence.

Former Tottenham underwhelmer Paulinho gets the nod to start in midfield for Barcelona with Denis Suarez left on the bench.

Philippe Coutinho is cup-tied having represented Liverpool in this season's competition before his big-money move to the Catalan capital in January, but Luis Suarez partners Lionel Messi up front.

Welcome to Stamford Bridge for tonight’s last-16 first leg semi-final between Chelsea and Barcelona in the Champions League.

Chelsea haven’t been in the best of form, winning just four of their last 12 matches. By contrast Barcelona are unbeaten in La Liga and lead Aletico Madrid by seven points.

The good news for Chelsea is that Lionel Messi has never scored against them (eight games) and he hasn’t scored against Thibaut Courtois in five years either.

The way he is playing you suspect that record might be broken. Messi’s first game against Chelsea was in Febraury 2006 and that was the last time Barca beat Chelsea.

Nii: Chelsea team could be a problem. No striker. Chelsea tends to suffer if they don’t have a central figure to use upfront. But hope Conte knows best.

I do believe Chelsea have enough over two legs to go through.

They rarely go into games as underdogs, but today they will be considered just that. That might work in their favour. The mindset of the Chelsea players from the start will be very important.

They have the quality, so it will be an interesting watch. First legs tend to be a bit cagier, but it will be dramatic.

This is a Barcelona team who are rolling like Fred Durst in the early noughties.

They racked up their 31st La Liga game unbeaten at the weekend, sweeping aside Eibar 2-0.

They are seven points clear of the chasing pack in La Liga and comfortably came through top of their qualifying group ahead of last year's runners-up Juventus.

Chelsea? Not so much.

The Blues have won just four of their past 12 games in all competitions.

And, in the Premier League, Tottenham are snapping on their heels, aiming to unseat Antonio Conte's men from the fourth and final Champions League qualifying spot.

Even on home turf, Chelsea are the underdogs.

Victory here would inject some romance into what seems to be a disintegrating marriage of convenience with Conte.

Defeat might hasten divorce.

What to make of that then Chelsea fans?

I thought that the little-large combination of Olivier Giroud holding the ball up for the darting runs of Eden Hazard might have been the curveball to throw the Barcelona defence out of their stride.

Neither Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata are up front for Chelsea.

Instead Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian form a floating front three with Morata and Giroud among the substitutes.

In total there are seven changes from the team that beat Hull in the FA Cup at the weekend with only Antonio Rudiger, Cesc Fabregas, Willian and Pedro retaining their places.

The Barcelona team has just landed.

They are unchanged from the team that beat Eibar at the weekend with Paulinho keeping his place in midfield.

Ousmane Dembele is named on the bench alongside former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.

No spot for the cup-tied Philippe Coutinho.

Like cider and black, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, an aerosol can and a naked flame, Chelsea and Barcelona are the unlikely combination that never fails to deliver.

The two teams have met 12 times in Champions League action. Eighteen all is the aggregate scoreline, but that is only the half of it with red cards, last-minute winners, tunnel fracas, claim, counter-claim and two refereeing careers defined by the controversy that has engulfed the fixture.
